‘I can not believe it!’ Tess Daly admits she is ‘in denial’ as she prepares for a ‘big change’ in her family life

Tess Daly has admitted that she is “in denial” as she prepares for a “big change” in her family life.

The Strictly Come Dancing host, 54, who shares daughters Phoebe, 18, and Amber, 13, with husband Vernon Kay, joined the Loose Women panel on Friday.

Speaking on the show, she said she “couldn’t believe” that her eldest daughter was now 18 and she knew change was imminent.

Tess explained that Phoebe will soon be leaving home for drama school, but joked that she “didn’t want to think about it.”

Panelist Jane Moore said she couldn’t believe how old her daughter was, and Tess replied, “I know, same thing, I deny it.”

She continued, “She’s never leaving, I can’t think about it,” while pretending to sob to the rest of the panel.

Last month, Vernon said he doesn’t want his children to live off the fame of him and his wife Tess, insisting they make “their own careers.”

She told MailOnline that she is currently looking for drama schools to send Phoebe to where she can combine her passion for acting and business.

Unlike some showbiz couples, Vernon says he and Tess believe it’s important for their children to “find themselves” rather than be given “life on a plate,” and credit the origins of the north of the couple the formation of their beliefs about parenting.

Vernon said, “We let them be independent when it comes to them and their future because it’s important that they allow them to find themselves, which is character building and personality development.”

‘Sometimes I think the old silver spoon and life on a plate in front of them… I think that’s quite contradictory to the way you want them to be.

“Tess and I grew up in hearty, healthy northern families and that’s a huge trait that helped us in our personal development and I think that’s really important.”

He added: “I don’t disagree with anyone doing that by helping their children, which is great, but I think sometimes for us personally, it’s whatever they’re interested in, they can go and discover themselves.”
