Conservatives slam Karine Jean-Pierre for saying trans community is ‘under attack’ after massacre

The White House on Thursday slammed Republicans for pushing ahead with laws banning transgender people from using certain restrooms and prohibiting access to gender-affirming treatments, saying the trans community was “under attack.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made the remarks after the Kentucky GOP overturned the governor’s veto.

But her words of solidarity were quickly picked up by extreme conservatives, who are trying to harass the entire transgender community about the actions of a trans shooter who killed six people at a Tennessee school this week.

“Honestly, fuck off, I’ve seen exactly ZERO sympathy for the Christian kids who were shot by the Biden admin this weekend by the trans sociopath,” Donald Trump’s son, Don Jr., tweeted.

“Instead, I’ve seen a lot of victimization and empathy for sociopathy coming from a growing militant part of this community.”

Her comments sparked backlash after Audrey Hale, a transgender man born female, shot and killed six people at the private Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.

It comes after six people were shot dead at a Nashville school by Audrey Hale, 28, who identified as transgender.

The result was a wave of prejudice from Republicans such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene who suggested guns were not responsible for the shooting.

“How many hormones like testosterone and mental illness drugs did the transgender Nashville school shooter take,” she tweeted.

In fact, mass shootings by people who identify as transgender are rare. They are much more likely to be victims of an attack.

But Republicans see the issue as a winner in the country’s culture wars. State legislators are focusing on the rights of LGBTQ+ people, with bills targeting everything from drag acts and trans athletes to gender-affirming treatments.

Against that background, Jean-Pierre was asked about lifting the veto in Kentucky at her daily briefing.

“We want to talk about improving the lives of Americans. They want to take away people’s freedoms,” she said of Republicans.

“One of the things we saw in the midterm elections is that people don’t want their freedom taken away.

They want us to fight for their freedoms. And so it’s embarrassing, it’s disturbing.

“And our hearts go out to those of the trans community as they are currently under attack.”

That led to accusations that she had forgotten about the victims of Tuesday’s shooting.

“I’m pretty sure the butchered Christian children are the ones being attacked,” said Rogan O’Handley, a conservative commentator on Twitter.

Greg Price, from the State Freedom Caucus Network: “Trans person kills three kids at a Christian school and the White House press secretary says it’s actually the trans people who are under attack right now.”

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was another influencer who used social media to ridicule the White House.

Friday was Transgender Visibility Day, designed to highlight transgender contributions.

“America is founded on the idea that all people are created equal and deserve to be treated equally throughout their lives,” President Joe Biden said in a proclamation.

“We never fully lived up to that, but we never ran away from it either. As we celebrate transgender people today, we are also celebrating every American’s fundamental right to be themselves, which brings us closer to realizing America’s full promise.”

“Let me be clear: These attacks are un-American and must end,” he said.

“The bullying, discrimination and political attacks that trans children face have exacerbated our national mental health crisis. More than half of the transgender young people say they have seriously considered suicide.’

State Secretary Antony Blinken has also issued a message.

“At the same time, we underline the work that remains to ensure that all transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals can live authentic, safe and dignified lives. This work includes ensuring that all individuals can secure identity documents that fully reflect who they are. Transgender people deserve to live free from violence, discrimination and stigma.
