The Project: Waleed Aly takes a dig at Carrie Bickmore and Lisa Wilkinson’s huge salaries

The Project’s Waleed Aly appears to be scrutinizing the huge salaries of former co-hosts Carrie Bickmore and Lisa Wilkinson after a debate over the gender pay gap

The Project’s Waleed Aly appeared to be doing a snide dig on Thursday about the huge salaries of his former co-stars Lisa Wilkinson and Carrie Bickmore.

Waleed, 44, was discussing the gender pay gap when comedian Sam Taunton stepped in and suggested that the panel – which included Sarah Harris and Kate Langbroek – reveal their salaries on broadcast who earned more.

“I really wish we’d done this last year,” Aly joked.

“Oh, I see what you mean,” Sam replied as co-host Sarah Harris burst into laughter.

Aly’s joke may be referring to The Project hosts’ salaries that were made public last March – with both Lisa and Carrie taking home significantly more than Aly.

The Australian reported that Aly was making $900,000 a year hosting The Project — while Bickmore reportedly took home $1.5 million, while Wilkinson brought in $1.7 million

However, both women resigned from the show late last year.

Elsewhere in the episode, Langbroek admitted like a bomb that she made 40 percent less than her co-host Dave Hughes – despite doing the same job he did.

The TV presenter, 57, admitted she was shocked to find out Hughes was getting a higher salary.

“It turned out that he was paid 40 percent more than me. This was the Hughesy and Kate Show we created together that wouldn’t exist without us,” she said.

‘Show business is not a standard situation, but we did a radio show together for 18 years. It changed our relationship when we talked about money and then I left.”

Kate co-hosted the hit car show Hughesy and Kate from 2001 to January 2019 along with 52-year-old Dave, when she resigned to spend more time with her family.

She added that the gender pay gap is a form of financial discrimination that women in Australia continue to face.
