Frozen composers reveal they were surprised by the announcement of a third film: “We were very excited”

The Oscar-winning composers of Frozen and Frozen II will have some new ideas to thaw out when they begin work on a third film in Disney’s hit franchise.

Songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and her husband Robert Lopez say the news, which was announced during Disney Chairman Bob Iger’s February call with investors, came as a big surprise to them.

“They told us the day and a little bit about what they were thinking,” the couple revealed in an interview with collider.

‘We were very moved. Now, we have to let the wheels of Hollywood do what they do, but we were very excited about their ideas.’

Idina Menzel, 51, who starred in the Disney+ film Disenchanted, and Kristen Bell, 42, provide the voices of lead characters Queen Elsa and Princess Anna in the animated adventures.

Frozen 3: Frozen 3 has been given the green light. Disney studio chief Bob Iger made the announcement during a recent call with investors.

The couple, who are parents to two daughters, say their children inspired their songs in the original Frozen.

‘When they showed us the pictures of Little Anna and Little Elsa, we said: ‘That’s Katie and Annie. Those are our children. This is for them. This is what we have to tell the world right now.”

Idina Menzel, who is currently set to star in Redwood at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, has already expressed some of her thoughts on where another chapter of the Queen Elsa character’s story should lead.

In a December interview with PeopleThe Tony winner said she loved that her character was “unconventional because she didn’t need a prince to save the day and that it was a story about sisters.”

“But I would love her now, finally, in Frozen 3, to have a partner in life.”

Kristen Bell, who voiced Anna in Frozen and Frozen 2, has also pushed a new story for the royal sisters of Arendelle.

In a June 2022 appearance on the tonight show she said with conviction: “I would like to officially announce, without authority, Frozen 3.”
