Jaguars’ Calvin Ridley will wear No. 0 after NFL announces players can wear the number in 2023

Jacksonville Jaguars’ Calvin Ridley will become the first player to wear the number 0 jersey as he launches on the NFL’s new rule change for the 2023 season

Calvin Ridley is the first NFL player to announce that he will wear No. 0 on his kersey through the 2023 season.

The NFL announced that players would be able to wear the unusual number on Tuesday, and minutes later, Ridley took to Twitter to reveal his jersey change, in what will surely be the first of many across the league.

‘Excited to be the first @Jags player to wear a zero, shout out to @Jagsequip! #ReadyToWork,” Ridley wrote.

The Jaguars also then tweeted an image of Ridley wearing the shirt, announcing that he would wear it.

NFL teams voted in favor of Philadelphia’s proposal to allow players to wear the number 0, as seen in college football.

The approval now also allows punters and kickers to use a number between 0-49 and 90-99. Previously, they could only use 1-19.

Ridley has yet to play for Jacksonville despite being acquired by AFC South champion Atlanta in November.

He was reinstated by the National Football League after a suspension of play on March 6.

The former Falcons star last played on Oct. 24, 2021 in Atlanta’s Week 6 win in Miami against the Dolphins.

Overall, nine rule change proposals have been submitted for consideration by the NFL’s competition committee.

A fourth-and-20 from the kicking team’s own 20-yard line, in lieu of an onside kick, also suggested by the Eagles, was among the unapproved proposals.
