Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has revealed he shared ‘pints and cigars’ with Jurgen Klopp ahead of last year’s Champions League final.
The Reds were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid in Paris last year in their abortive quadruple hunt after a late Vinicius Junior goal.
While you would expect a coach of Klopp’s intensity to be in his office preparing in the days leading up to the final, Gerrard has now painted a different point of view.
‘I was walking the dog,’ the former midfielder said of Klopp to the Anfield wrap on YouTube, ‘I was sitting outside with one of my friends having a couple of pints.
‘I yelled to wish him good luck, because he had a final days later. I thought she would be in the area.

It came just days before last year’s Champions League final against Real Madrid in Paris.
‘He told me: ‘No, no, no. He go to the bar and get me a pint.’ So we brought him a pint.
The Liverpool boss ended up staying for a while, as Gerrard explained: “He ended up having two or three smokes, he smoked a couple of times, his dog waited patiently and we had a good time probably for over an hour.” About football, about life in Liverpool, his plans for the future.
“He was really great company to have and it was different from a football setting, it was Jurgen in his civilian clothes, his dog walking gear.”
