Coleen Nolan breaks down in tears while discussing her sister Linda’s cancer battle

Coleen Nolan broke down in tears during an emotional appearance on Monday’s Loose Women after her sister Linda revealed that her cancer had spread to her brain.

The Loose Women star, 58, admitted she was ‘sick’ of the disease ‘attacking her family’ as Linda battles the disease for the third time.

Coleen told the panel: “Linda has had cancer since 2005. It’s her strength and will to live, she’s so strong all the time and it makes the rest of us strong.”

“It was a huge shock on Monday when he told us that that was the diagnosis, that he had had incurable cancer for a while, but it has always been treatable.”

He continued: “Very sadly, he told us that it had gone to the brain, which would normally be ‘OK, we only have a certain amount of time,’ but he told us that a new drug had been developed.”

“She’s only been out for a year, but she’s showing great signs, so they put her on that.”

Coleen praised her sister for staying positive despite her prognosis, saying: “You hear her talk and she’s positive, so it makes you stronger.”

But Coleen broke down in tears, telling the panel: “This time I didn’t cry because I felt really numb.

I’m so sick of it, it just attacks my family, I know a lot of people go through it. I’m afraid to cry because I don’t think it will stop me, but I’m going to cry now so we can move on.

Earlier in the day, Linda revealed on Good Morning Britain that her cancer has spread to her brain in a harrowing interview.

The singer, who recently celebrated her 64th birthday, was first diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2005 before being cleared in 2006, but in 2017 she was diagnosed with an incurable form of secondary cancer in her hip, which then it spread to her. liver in 2020.

She told presenters Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley: ‘I’ve always been hopeful with my treatment and what’s going on in my life.

“I just want to tell you that unfortunately for me, my cancer has spread to my brain and that’s obviously scary because there isn’t much treatment for brain cancer except chemotherapy.”

She added: ‘I won’t give up. I’m positive. I am going to lose my hair again for the fourth time.

“I came back to live with my sister, I was having falls, the cancer in my brain was affecting my balance and I had three pretty nasty falls.

‘So as always my amazing family: I’m back living with my sister Denise and her partner. Maureen has been taking care of me for the last few weeks.

‘I bought a wheelchair, we are preparing things for the inevitable, really. It’s a scary ride to be on this one.

Linda said she’s trying to stay positive: “I don’t know how much time I have left and that’s not to be kinky or anything, but I don’t know, none of us really know.” So for me, it’s about making the most of each day and spending it with the people I love.

‘Just being positive: ‘Yeah I’ve beaten him before’, I’ve been fighting since 2005 originally and then I’ve beaten him before so hopefully I can do the same again. Obviously with the great help I’ve always had from the NHS.

Linda was supported by her famous sisters as she left the hospital in a wheelchair on Saturday.

She was helped into a car by her sister Maureen, 68, who she sang with in the family pop group The Nolans in the ’70s and ’80s.

Linda is said to have suffered a ‘series of falls’ due to chemotherapy, leaving her family ‘extremely concerned’.

A source told The Mirror: “Linda has been prone to falls, but it’s a common side effect of the chemotherapy she was receiving.”

It comes after Linda shared a new health update while trying a new treatment for her cancer diagnosis.

Linda, the television personality, later suffered a fall on her hip, when doctors discovered a form of incurable secondary breast cancer in her pelvis.

In 2020, she was diagnosed with the terrible disease for a third time, and has since received ongoing treatment that has caused her to lose her hair and eyebrows, and even caused her toenails to turn ‘chalk’.

Since then, the star has been open with her fans about her journey to “do anything to stay alive.”

In 2021, Linda started treatment again, but was devastated to learn that it had not had the effect she had hoped for.

She explained to The Sun: ‘I started chemotherapy again in September, but the doctor said it hadn’t done what they expected. The tumors on my liver were enlarged and growing so they had to put me back on chemotherapy.

It was a shock. But I’ll do whatever it takes to stay alive. We agreed on a 12-week course, once a week every Friday.’

She said she spent two days in bed crying after being given the difficult news, wondering if she would be with her family much longer.

‘I was thinking: ‘Am I going to see my great-nieces? Will I watch them grow up and get married?’ But then I thought, ‘I don’t want to let cancer win.’

Linda rose to fame with her family pop group The Nolans in the ’70s, performing alongside her sisters Anne, 71, Denise, 69, Maureen, 67, and Coleen, 57.

His last sister, Bernie, was also a member, but she died of breast cancer in 2013 at age 52.

Anne was previously diagnosed with breast cancer, but is now in remission.

He went on to explain that he doesn’t say certain things about his illness to his family because he doesn’t want to upset them, but he finds comfort in humor, though he admits it’s a bit dark at times.

Linda runs a WhatsApp group so she can update her family on any progress or test results, and often jokes on the messaging service that she hopes the next family event they attend isn’t her funeral.

She says she has asked her doctors not to tell her how much time they think she has left because she just wants to ‘make memories’ and asked for a break from treatment, rescheduling her December chemotherapy so she could enjoy Christmas.

The star concluded: ‘Three of my nephews are getting married and Denise is turning 70. My godson Danny, who is Maureen’s son, is getting married in Italy and that’s my goal: to make sure I’m there in August.

I will be there for all those things. They are milestones. I am decided.’
