Kyle and Jackie O prankster Intern Pete tries to get new NSW Premier Chris Minns to do a shoey
Notorious prankster who tried to force new Chris Minns to do a disgusting ‘shoey’ during Labor celebration has been exposed
- NSW Labor won by a coalition landslide on Saturday
- Prime Minister-elect Chris Minns offered a beer to do a ‘shoey’
- The culprit was Kyle and Jackie O’s radio personality ‘Intern Pete’
A serial prankster has tried to convince NSW Labor leader Chris Minns to drink a beer from a shoe after his victory speech.
Pete Deppeler, a producer on the Kyle and Jackie O show who also plays the ‘Intern Pete’ character, managed to get into Labor HQ for his election night party.
Deppeler managed to squeeze to the front of the packed crowd during the late night speech before removing one of his leather business shoes.
When Mr. Minns finished his speech, he reached across the podium and held out his shoe with a bottle of beer balanced precariously in the heel.
The prime minister-elect completely ignored the request to carry out Australia’s most disgusting ‘tradition’ and posed for photos with his family.
Broadcasters covering the event mistook Deppeler for an overly excited Labor supporter, but it was just another prank from the radio nuisance.
Deppeler previously filmed an Instagram story of the party as Labor supporters celebrated the influx of votes as it became clear they would win by a landslide.
Chris Minns won the election. A lot of people are happy about it, John Howard is speaking on TV, he’s not happy,’ he said without breathing.
“I had a few drinks, it’s a whole thing, don’t worry,” he continued before abruptly walking off camera.

Intern Pete’s character has a long history of awkward and ridiculous stunts, and this isn’t the first political victory speech he crashed.
When Anthony Albanese won another Labor landslide on May 21, 2022, Deppeler once again made his way to the front of the crowd.
While the Prime Minister-elect was giving his speech, Deppeler regularly shouted ‘we love you Albo’ or the like and at one point even introduced himself as someone from the radio show.
Mr. Albanese eventually had enough and after telling them no and giving them several blows, he finally lost his cool.
‘Can we please have a little order? I intend to lead an orderly government and that starts here. So behave yourself!’ he said.
Another producer of the show, Pedro Vitola, explained on air days later that Mr. Albanese “looked directly at Piet” when he made the comment.
But the night didn’t stop there, with Pedro explaining that after Mr. Albanese walked offstage, they found a “secret door next to the toilets that happened to be unlocked.”
So Pete and Pedro ventured backstage into the hallways, where they were greeted by Australian Federal Police officers guarding the Prime Minister-elect.
“It’s Peter van Kyle and Jackie O,” he told AFP agents, dropping the hosts in again.
“Now get out before I arrest you,” the officer told the pair, who promptly turned around.
Deppeler briefly became ‘Australia’s most hated man’ in 2018 with a prank question at the press conference of then Australian cricket captain Steve Smith.
Smith famously burst into tears when he admitted that he had failed to stop two of his players, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, from changing the ball illegally during a tour of South Africa.
Deppeler decided it was the right time to compare his situation to events on the reality TV show Married at First Sight.
“Buddy, I gotta tell you… keep your head up for what you’ve done, because what’s actually worse is what Davina and Dean did in Married at First Sight,” he said.
He was kicked out of the room and sent hundreds of death threats, and worse, online in what he called the worst experience of his life.
