Kyle Sandilands reveals the truth about how he fell in love with fiancée Tegan Kynaston

Kyle Sandilands has lifted the lid on his fairytale love story with fiancé Tegan Kynaston ahead of their star-studded nuptials next month.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Australia on the set of Australian Idol this week, the radio king, 54, shared how his longtime friendship with Tegan, 37, blossomed into romance during a difficult time in his life.

“We were friends for four or five years, and then she worked with me for about a year,” said the father of one child.

He recalled how the pair moved in the same social circles, occasionally crossing paths at parties, before Tegan finally approached him as a friend asking for a job.

Tegan, who was working in advertising at the time, was a perfect fit for Kyle’s media company King Kyle and was hired as an office manager in March 2017.

Their professional relationship quickly proved fruitful and they launched their own sangria brand Nueva Drinks Co in January 2019. with the help of Tegan’s family, who work in alcohol production.

When his relationship with his socialite girlfriend Imogen Anthony fell apart a year later, Tegan offered a shoulder to cry on.

“I was single for a while, and I leaned on [Tegan] a lot’, the KIIS FM presenter recalls.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Australia on the set of Australian Idol this week, the radio king shared how his longtime friendship with Tegan blossomed into romance during a difficult time in his life.

“I used to call her and say, ‘I need this,’ or, ‘I don’t have an Uber Eats app. Can you order food for me at this hotel?’ I didn’t live at home, I lived in a hotel for months.’

Kyle admitted that he “can’t put a finger on the exact day they fell in love” as their friendship seamlessly evolved into romance.

‘She was single and I was single for the first time [in a while]. And I think we never thought of each other that way, we just appreciated each other and were true friends. And it just blossomed from there,” he said.

“I told her, ‘I always thought you were smart and pretty,’ but I was never a creep or anything,” Kyle added.

The couple went public with their romance on New Year’s Eve in 2019 and got engaged over Christmas in 2021 on a romantic getaway to Port Douglas.

A month later, they announced that Tegan was expecting their first child, and their son Otto was welcomed into the world in August last year.

Kyle, who often discusses his sex life on air, also shared how he and Tegan keep the passion alive after having a child by finding time to be together.

“Before we had Otto, we never had a day (when we planned to have sex) or anything, it would just happen when it happened.

“But I think your life changes in a different way. Still on a positive note, but you have to make time to keep that romance alive and let each other know you love each other.”

The pair also avoid going to bed in the middle of an argument and “still kiss even when they disagree,” Kyle said.

“There’s nothing worse than someone dozing off in bed, angry at the other. You should kiss the other person so that both of you can sleep. Especially when a baby is involved, you can’t have any tension.

“We’ve both been really good at that. And we’re lucky to have a calm baby.”

Kyle, who has decades of experience in the commercial music scene, said that while Australian Idol is a great platform to boost an artist’s career, the real challenge comes after the cameras stop rolling.

‘[The contestants] think that’s the hard part, winning. It’s not, it’s every record you put out, you’re only as good as your last song.

So you put three [bad] songs in a row and you’re dead, it’s over for you. You have to start over and convince everyone that you are worth investing in. That’s the hardest part.’

The Australian Idol winner will receive $100,000 in cash and a recording contract with Sony Music.

Kyle, who has decades of experience in the commercial music scene, said while Australian Idol is a great platform to boost an artist’s career, the real challenge comes after the cameras stop rolling.

Kyle also noted that artists cannot simply rely on their music to make it as a commercially successful artist.

‘There is [being played on] radio, there’s YouTube, there’s lots of ways to get out and about. But all of that is necessary for full global commercial success. Social media presence, all radio pop stations around the world are playing it,” he said.
