The Israeli native became a household name in the entertainment industry after being cast as DC Studios’ version of Wonder Woman.
After the first two movies came out in 2017 and 2020 respectively, there were plans for a third movie in the works with DC when the movie was scrapped from the studio’s slate.
Despite the studio not moving forward with the third Wonder Woman installment, James Gunn, who was recently named the new co-head of DC Studios, explained that Gal was not fired from the role.
The filmmaker responded to a comment on a recent DC-related Instagram post that read, “Can’t wait to see what you’re cooking up… That being said, the move to oust Cavill and Gadot…doesn’t inspire confidence.” .’
“I’m not sure where you get ‘ripped’ Gal off,” Gunn replied.
The first Wonder Woman movie debuted in 2017, opening with a grand opening weekend of $103 million on its way to $412 million domestically and $822 million worldwide.
Gunn and Safran, along with Warner Bros. co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, said the third film didn’t currently fit with their new plans for DC Studios.
