Jon Hamm will join the cast of the musical film Mean Girls, which will premiere on Paramount+.

The 52-year-old Mad Men star will play the role of incompetent and bumbling sex ed instructor and resident gym teacher Coach Carr, according to the hollywood reporter.

The original character warned students about awkward ways they could “die” and was portrayed in the 2004 film by Dwayne Hill.

“At your age, you’re going to have a lot of impulses,” Coach Carr said in a hilarious scene. They will want to take off their clothes and touch themselves. But if they touch each other, they’ll get chlamydia… and die.

The plot of Mean Girls follows teenager Cady Heron, who moves from Africa with her parents to suburban Illinois, where she becomes trapped in the social hierarchy of her new high school. She quickly joins a popular clique known as the Plastics, but things soon turn sour.

The film was a huge success, grossing $129 million (£105 million) worldwide and winning a number of accolades at the Teen Choice Awards and MTV Movie Awards.

The feature film will be an adaptation of the Broadway musical, which was adapted from the cult classic starring Rachel McAdams and Lindsey Lohan.

McAdams’ character Regina will be played by Renee Rapp, and Lohan’s character Cady will be played by Angourie Rice.

The news also comes after original Mean Girls star Amanda Seyfried insisted that she would be up for a cameo in the musical film.

Other newcomers to the cast include Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Avantika, Mahi Alam, Christopher Briney, Bebe Wood, Ashley Park, and Connor Ratliff.

Phillips will take on the role of June George, the flamboyant mother of the leader of The Plastics clique, played by Amy Poehler, who constantly tried to be the ‘cool mom’ to her daughter and the rest of The Plastics.

Tina Fey will return to write the screenplay for the musical feature (as she did for the stage musical), with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin.

Fey will also produce alongside SNL creator Lorne Michaels, who wrote the book for the Broadway show.
