A Denver student who was ordered to undergo a daily pat-down at school shot two staff members there, police say.

The boy, whose name and age have not been released, is said to have opened fire at East High School in the Colorado town on Wednesday morning.

He fled the school after carrying the gun he used in the shooting and is now being wanted by police officers who know his identity, ABC News reported.

Staff and students are seen in the vicinity of East High School in Denver Wednesday after a shooting there.

The youth is said to have been required to submit to a pat-down every day upon arrival at school.

East High School would only say that the child was subject to a ‘safety plan’ as a result of ‘prior behavior’.

It is said that he opened fire during this ritual, which takes place in the East High office area.

A motive for the shooting has not been released.

The students were in their third period classroom when the shots were fired, according to the Denver Post.

The shooting prompted a school closure, with classes scheduled to return to normal as the day progresses.

Just last month, East High School students attended a Denver City Council meeting to call for better action on gun violence in schools.

They spoke after a 16-year-old was shot and seriously wounded near the school.

East High School will have two armed officers present at the school throughout the day through the end of the year, a spokesperson said.
