Man left bloodied and with brain damage after couple attacks him in Queens over a parking spot

Two people have been arrested after they were filmed carrying out a brutal and disgusting bat attack on a man in the middle of a Queens street over a parking spot.
Authorities said the attack, which occurred Friday on 49th Street in Sunnyside, left the unidentified victim brain-damaged and on a ventilator.
In the video, the alleged attackers Arturo Cuevas, 30, and Daisy Barrera, 27, can be seen mercilessly punching and kicking the 28-year-old man in broad daylight.
In addition to being kicked and beaten with a bat, police said the man had also been stabbed five times “all over the body” and was admitted to hospital in critical condition.
Barrera and Cuevas have been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault.

In the short but shocking video, the two attackers are seen beating the man as he sits in the middle of the street near the intersection of 49th Street and 47th Avenue.
The attack took place shortly before 4:00 p.m., according to police.
Just before they began their ambush, Berrera and Cuevas had allegedly been involved in a dispute over a parking spot in the crowded area.
In the terrifying video, the 28-year-old man is seen sitting up with blood on his feet.
Cuevas at one point raises his leg and then kicks the victim in the head seconds before Barrera is seen bringing the bat over his shoulder and hitting him square in the head.
In the video, several bystanders are seen in the area, including a woman who tries to intervene and approaches Barrera.

Two other women stand to the side while another person stands nearby.

The kick and the swing of the bat land the victim on the ground, but that doesn’t stop Cuevas from getting into his face.
The man points an object at him and hits him again just before the video ends.
Police said the unidentified victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he suffered a severe head injury and was placed in critical condition.
According to the criminal complaint, Cuevas confessed to police about his arrest.
“It was me,” he allegedly told the police officers.
‘I told you it was already me. I already told you that I’m the one who did it,’ he allegedly said.
The man also admitted that ‘punched, kicked, stabbed, slashed with a knife, and struck with a baseball bat’ at the victim.
“I took the bat and the knife and brought them to my apartment and they are in my room,” Cuevas said.
Police say they even specified what type of bat was used in the attack.
In a statement, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said the defendants will face consequences for their actions.
“This shocking display of brutality will be met with justice,” Katz said.
“We have charged with attempted murder, and given the cruelty of the attack, we ask the court to hold the defendants in custody prior to trial,” he continued.
According to an NYPD spokesperson, Cuevas (orange shirt) was previously charged with assault and harassment for an attack on a 27-year-old man in April 2022.

Cuevas allegedly pulled that victim out of his car and repeatedly hit him in the face with brass knuckles.
Less than a week later, he allegedly punched a 41-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman in the face on April 11 for unknown reasons.
He was arrested and charged again with assault and harassment.
Barrera has no prior arrests.
Cuevas and Barrera are scheduled to appear in court on March 23.
