The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2023: David Schwimmer has kitchen dilemma

From getting stuck in leather pants to twisting a sofa around a narrow staircase, Friends’ Ross often found himself in sticky situations.

And it seems life imitates art for David Schwimmer, as while he got off to a promising start on The Great Celebrity Bake Off, things soon fell apart—literally.

The Channel 4 show returned to our screens last night with the actor, 56, making a meringue alongside Olympian Tom Daley and former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson.

The 56-year-old actor explained that he wanted to participate in the charity special because his grandmother died of the disease, as did the mother of his ex-wife Zoe Buckman.

She also told viewers that her sister Ellie had also battled cancer.

The Friends star said: “I lost a grandmother to cancer, my daughter lost a grandmother to cancer and my sister is a cancer survivor so it’s important to me.”

‘I’m just grateful to be able to help in a small way to raise more awareness.

‘I’m here to have fun. I’m here to raise money for a great charity. It’s a great cause and I happen to be a huge fan of the show.

David, best known for his role on the hit American sitcom, chose to sculpt a rabbit-shaped meringue with cashew nut filling and lemon curd.

However, her bunny started to crack, so she tried a quick fix.

Armed with freezing spray, he tried to ‘stick’ it, but upon picking it up, the bunny’s ear fell off.

Fortunately, it wasn’t all a disaster as judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood praised the ‘delicious’ flavours.

David said, “I’m glad I made it through the day without collapsing like my bunny did.”

The Stand Up To Cancer special features 20 stars, including Dragons’ Den’s Deborah Meaden and host Paddy McGuinness.

He is hosted by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, who will be replaced by This Morning’s Alison Hammond later this year.

David and Jesy Nelson competed on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer on Sunday, but viewers were left loving one over the other.

In the first round of the charity edition, actor David was hailed as a ‘legend’ by fans as he competed in the famous tent to raise funds for the cancer that previously plagued his family.

The Friends star admitted he had “very low expectations” for his cooking skills since he “doesn’t bake” at home, but David seemed to surprise himself throughout the show.

Competing against former Little Mix singer Jesy, comedian Rose Matafeo, and actor Tom Davis, the celebrities were tasked with baking six tasty cakes, six delicious macarons, and a 3D meringue from a celebrity botched scene.

After each round, David won every challenge, including the Star Baker award, and went on to win the coveted Hollywood handshake from judge Paul Hollywood.

David admitted before baking: ‘I make dinner, but I don’t bake lunch. My friends and family are very excited for me, they are huge fans of the show.

‘I don’t bake on a day-to-day or year-to-year basis. My expectations are so low that I think I could do very well on my own.’

Fans couldn’t contain their excitement as he performed his show stopper before being awarded his very own Stand Up To Cancer apron in recognition of his impressive culinary skills.
