A grandmother has died after suffering “catastrophic” injuries when the pit bull she rescued suddenly turned on her.
Anne Shields, 67, was mauled by the dog she named Choccy at her holiday home in Spain. She had taken him in like a famished tramp.
Her daughter told The sun that Mrs. Shields never intended to keep the dog, but that the local animal shelters were full, so she chose to look after him “until she found someone who could take him.”
The British expat was reportedly an animal lover and “couldn’t bear the thought of throwing Choccy back onto the street.”

Police were called to Ms Shields’ home in Macastre, near Valencia, after neighbors reported hearing her screams.
Officers shot the dog so medics could reach the retiree who suffered head and arm injuries.
Mrs Shields was taken to hospital where she died the next day.
“It’s a nightmare,” her daughter Sarah, 43, said of the attack. “She stayed with him and then this happened.”
Sarah said her mother was “very caring” and her loved ones “will miss her dearly.”
Pit bulls are not banned in Spain as they are in the UK. However, a license is required to own one as they are considered ‘potentially dangerous’.
