Prince Edward and Sophie spotted at St Andrews University where filming of The Crown is underway
Prince Edward and his wife Sophie have been spotted in St Andrews, where filming is currently underway for The Crown.
The sixth and final series of the royal saga is being filmed at Scottish University, where Prince William, 40, met his famous wife Kate Middleton in the early 2000s.
And while photos of the set and cast have been shared, few seemed to see Edward and Sophie – now the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh – casually walking the grounds.
In a video shot by Adam Thomson, the royal couple can be seen casually walking near the set. Adam told FEMAIL that the pair were so inconspicuous, he didn’t notice who he was looking at at first.
He explained, “We saw them come around the corner, and it was quite a surprise because at first we thought they were actors, but then we realized it’s actually [Edward and Sophie].’

Adam added that despite seeing some of what he thought were professional photographers, no one seemed to notice the Edinburghs.
According to Adam, the royal couple were standing “next to” the movie set where he saw them.
Cast members have also been photographed filming the royal drama. Meg Bellamy was transformed into Kate Middleton while Ed McVey was seen as a portrait prince william while the series recreated their time in St Andrews where they met and fell in love.
Theatrically trained Ed, 22, who will play Prince William through his late teens and early twenties, was seen in a navy blue quilted jacket for the scenes.
Meanwhile, Meg, 19, was pictured wearing a brown fleece as she walked the set, with her brunette hair styled in loose waves.
Prince William and Kate became friends in their first year before the romance blossomed after William spotted “hot” Kate walking down a charity fashion show catwalk in a sheer dress.
He had moved to the prestigious university in Fife after completing his studies at Eton College in 2001. They graduated in 2005 and William proposed marriage five years later.
The sighting comes when the new Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are visiting Scotland.

On Friday, the pair greeted crowds on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and visited the City Chambers to mark a year since the city’s formal response to the invasion of Ukraine.
Edward, who was made Duke of Edinburgh on his 59th birthday on March 10, was addressing an excited audience when he seemed to lose his voice with excitement when he referred to his wife, now Duchess of Edinburgh.
While the new duke was celebrating his birthday, his eldest brother, King Charles, bestowed the new title in accordance with the wishes of their late father, Prince Philip.
He told the audience that the day had been “very special and somewhat overwhelming” for himself and his wife, “the Duchess.”
Addressing the audience, he said: ‘Thank you very much for welcoming us to Edinburgh today, indeed a very special and somewhat overwhelming day for – now – my wife, the Duchess.’
When he addressed Sophie, 58, by her new title, his voice rose slightly in excitement.
In response, the crowd laughed at his innocent, childish glee and applauded as he beamed.
Sophie’s previous rank as Countess of Wessex meant she was of the same rank as her husband Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex.
This rise in royal status for Sophie, 58, is a touching tribute to the late Queen’s daughter-in-law who affectionately called her “Mum”.
Married to Prince Edward for 24 years, she is known for her down-to-earth nature and was seen by the late Queen as the safest hands of The Firm.

However, their new titles of duke and duchess are of a higher rank, elevating them in status just below the monarch.
Duchesses are also called Her Royal Highness. Meanwhile, the title of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh is one of the highest in the royal family.
The move is a moving and lasting bond between the late Queen and her beloved daughter-in-law Sophie.
She was known as the ‘favourite’ relative and close confidante of the late monarch.
Experts previously noted that the spotlight on the Countess is what Prince Philip “would have wanted” and helped to “keep his memory alive.”
