FC Cincinnati overcomes red card to defeat Seattle Sounders, Paul Arriola’s own-goal leads to draw

Brenner scored in the 63rd minute and FC Cincinnati rallied by finishing a man down to hand visiting Seattle Sounders FC their first defeat of the young season with a 1-0 win on Saturday night.

Moments after Brenner struck the side of the net following a Seattle turnover by goalkeeper Stefan Frei, the Brazilian did not miss his next opportunity.

Following another Sounders toss in their own box, some nifty passing from Cincinnati landed the ball at the foot of Brenner, whose low, broadside shot deflected off the hand of a scattering Frei. It was his first goal of the season coming in the 63rd minute.

Medranda, who arrived from the Seattle Sounders in the offseason as a free agent, broke away from the line of defenders and appeared to be close to being offside before sending the ball over the goalie’s head. The linesman’s flag was raised for offside, but after video review, the goal was awarded.

Colón (1-1-1, 4 points) was the attacking team in the final minutes after Medranda’s goal. But the Crew were unable to find a winner before time expired despite tries like Lucas Zelarayan hitting the left post with a shot in the first minute of second half stoppage time.
