Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger shocks fans as she teases ‘dramatic’ exit from the show after playing Irene Roberts for thirty years

She holds the crown as the longest-serving actress in the same role in Australia, but veteran star Lynne McGranger has revealed how she is planning on leaving Home and Away.

The actress, who has played Irene Roberts on the iconic soap for 30 years, has detailed how she would like to exit the soap – and she hopes to do it with a bang.

While she’s stolen the hearts of the nation with her portrayal of the motherly figure, 70-year-old Lynne wants her exit from the show to be dramatic.

‘I want to go with the biggest bang, the most dramatic exit,’ she told Stuff.co.nz.

‘I want to get lost at sea, or I want to die a really sad, lengthy death with everyone weeping and wailing around me.

‘Or Irene could get lost at sea and they never find the body, have the memorial service and everything and then she walks back into town.’

Looking back on her life, the veteran soap star said there is little she regrets.

However, she said she would’ve like to have spent more time with her daughter Clancy, 31, when she was younger, who she shares with her husband Paul McWater.

Asked about her heroes in life, Lynne said there are so many, but said that one has to be Johnny Ruffo, who played Chris Harrington on Home And Away.

The actor is currently battling a diagnosis of terminal cancer, and just a few days ago celebrated his 35th birthday.
