Shocking surveillance footage shows the moment a murder suspect simply ran out of an Oregon courthouse after sheriff’s deputies released him.

Ed Villalobos, 28, was scheduled to stand trial on February 27 for allegedly stabbing his mother’s partner before stabbing an unrelated man just two hours later and leading police on an hours-long manhunt in 2021. .

But when a sheriff’s deputy removed the shackles from her wrists and ankles, as required by Oregon’s awakening laws, she scrambled to her feet, pushed a chair and ran toward it, down the hall and past the doors of Staff Only. .

Police were only able to catch up with him once more after a two-hour chase when someone reported a man trying to break into an apartment.

Security footage from the Washington County Courthouse shows two sheriff’s deputies, apparently a man and a woman, leading Villalobos down a hallway to the first-floor courtroom where his hearing was scheduled.

Once inside, the officer gropes him and removes the shackles from his wrists, after which Villalobos takes a seat so the officer can also remove the shackles from his ankles.

“When it comes to removing restrictions, that’s what Oregon law requires us to do,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Department later said in a statement.

It’s unclear when sheriff’s deputies lost track of him, but what followed was a two-hour manhunt through the city of Hillsboro, where police blocked off streets and even used a drone to track Villalobos’ location.
