Scream VI could SET new franchise box office record on opening weekend

Scream VI has a chance to set the biggest domestic box office record for a franchise during its opening weekend, with the highly anticipated film aiming to gross over $35 million.

The new film, starring Courteney Cox, Jenna Ortega and Hayden Panettiere, opens on March 10 and could break the record held by 2000’s Scream 3, which grossed $34.7 million in its debut.

2022’s Scream made $30 million in its domestic release, and with much fanfare surrounding the franchise’s latest offering, Scream VI could top that record.

The latest film comes 26 years after the original and transports the action from Woodsboro to the gritty streets of New York.

The official synopsis reads: “Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City.”

Coming after Courteney spilled some juicy new details about the upcoming horror sequel.

The actress revealed that she will face Ghostface, the masked serial killer.

Several different characters have donned the Ghostface mask over the course of the film series, with their identities eventually being revealed.

However, Courteney revealed that in Scream IV, for the first time, her character Gale Weathers will have to fend off Ghostface without knowing who he is.

“I have a really good scene with Ghostface and it was amazing. Obviously I’ve been stabbed a lot and all that, but this time, working with Ghostface and not knowing who’s under the mask, it was a lot of fun,” he said in a new interview with Variety. “Usually when I get stabbed, I know who it is.”

Courteney is the only star from the first Scream movie to remain with the franchise until the new movie.
