‘I thought I died’: The Flash star didn’t understand why he was in the DCEU movie
Michael Shannon has admitted that he didn’t understand why he was asked to reprise his role as General Zod in The flash.
Speak against Looper (opens in new tab)Shannon revealed that he was initially confused back then The flash director Andy Muschietti and Warner Bros. asked him to return as one of the villains of the DC Cinematic Universe (DCEU) movie. The reason? General Zod died in 2013 Man of SteelHenry Cavill’s Superman who broke his neck to save some innocent bystanders Zod tried to kill.
After a brief explanation about The flashHowever, Shannon’s multiversal and time travel based plot agreed to return as the evil, conquering Kryptonian.
Asked if he was surprised he was reprising the role, Shannon said: “I was a little confused. I said, ‘If I remember correctly, I think I died in Man of Steel. Are they sure they have the right man?’
“But then they explained the whole multiverse phenomenon to me. I was a little behind the times in that regard. I can’t say I’m a big consumer of this movie genre – not that I have anything against it. If I I’m going to watch a movie, chances are it won’t be one of those, but I love making them.”
Interestingly, Shannon also teased how The flashZod’s version will differ from the iteration we saw Man of Steelas well as a hint that the supervillain may not play as big of a part in the proceedings as audiences expect.
“He’s a little bit different in this movie,” Shannon added. “He’s a little bit more… I don’t know how to put it. You don’t spend that much time with him, so you don’t really get to know that much about what he thinks. It’s not necessarily his movie. That’s the problem with these multiverse movies – you get a little bit of this and a little bit of that But it’s really Ezra [Miller’s] movie.”
The flash, which hits theaters on June 16 and is one of the new movies of 2023 we’re most looking forward to, will be one of the last movies in the DCEU’s current form. According to new DC Studios co-head James Gunn, The flash “reset the entire DC Universe (DCU)”, allowing Gunn and Safran to begin shaping Warner Bros’ flagship superhero franchise in their image.
We already know some of the movie and TV projects in development for DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Gunn unveiled the DCU’s first lineup for movies and TV shows in late January. Among those first projects are a new one Superman movie, The Batman Part IIand numerous HBO Max shows, such as Lanterns And Booster Gold. Be sure to find out which of those productions are the most exciting DCU movies and TV shows in our opinion while you’re here.
A nasty tease or a Machiavellian deception?
Of all Shannon’s comments, it’s the ones that pertain to how often we’ll be seeing General Zod The flash that make for intriguing reading.
The first trailer for the superhero movie suggested that Zod would be the main opponent. And while Shannon’s comments suggest that could still be the case – Zod could still be the main villain, he might not appear in many scenes – it leaves the door open for another character to be the real big bad of the game. to be the movie.
We don’t expect Sasha Calle’s Supergirl or Michael Keaton’s Batman to turn to the dark side. Both characters are a force for good, despite the trauma they endured (admittedly, mainly in the comics). So we can remove them from the equation.
However, we can’t completely dismiss the other Barry Allen/Flash who will play protagonist Ezra Miller in the film.
Yeah, we see the two Barry Allens – this multiverse thing is confusing, isn’t it? – collaborate in the trailer of the film. And based on their other interactions, it seems like the alternate dimension version of Barry Allen a) doesn’t really know what’s going on, and b) hasn’t acquired his speedster abilities yet. How can a person with no superpowers, with no prior knowledge of the multiverse, be such a threat to it?
Maybe he’s playing dumb. Perhaps he’ll use the DCEU’s Barry Allen to acquire his powers – the trailer suggests the duo recreate the lightning bolt lab experiment to endow this Barry with his powers and, in the case of the DCEU’s Barry, acquire them again when he she loses. Once he does, maybe he’ll take a turn, reveal he was a villain all along, and explain his plan to take over the multiverse.
There are several evil incarnations of the Flash in DC comics and other live action shows and movies of the speedster, including Reverse Flash and Dark Flash. Then there is the possibility that The flashBarry could be one of these Machiavellian individuals. We’ll find out soon enough with the movie in three months.
