Last year, Martin revealed that he feels he has been given a “second chance at life” after his near-death health issue earlier this year when his heart, kidney and liver failed.
The presenter was hospitalized in April 2022 with chest pains that he mistook for prolonged Covid, but learned that he was suffering from a pericardial effusion, which is an accumulation of fluid in the structure around the heart.
He had to undergo emergency surgery and has now thanked the incredible medical team without whom he “would not be here.”

Grateful: Last year Martin revealed he feels he’s been given a “second chance at life” after his near-death health issue earlier this year when his heart, kidney and liver failed
He said Sun: ‘My heart was giving out, my kidneys and liver were working at 30 per cent and my lungs were getting weak. It should have been on the scrap heap, so little inside of me was working as it should.
It all seemed to happen so fast that I didn’t have time to panic. There was a whole team that saved my life.
“I remember asking the surgeon if he had ever killed someone doing that procedure and he said he had a clean sheet and he had no intention of changing that with me.
‘They saved my life and I will never be able to repay them. From the janitors and cleaners to the surgeons, each and every one of them deserves this nomination. I’ve been given a second chance and I’m not going to waste it.
