Kari Lake rejects claim she could be Trump’s running mate
Kari Lake says she is “100 percent” dedicated to serving as Arizona’s governor, after her name topped a list of potential running mates former President Donald Trump was reportedly considering.
‘I am 100% dedicated to serving as the Governor of Arizona. I will also work to ensure that President Trump returns to the White House as soon as possible,” she told DailyMail.com in a statement following a report that Trump considered her a “model” vice president among a quartet of female candidates.
“Anything outside of those two goals is just a distraction,” Lake said.
Lake led an opinion poll at the CPAC meeting where Trump loyalists were out in force, garnering 20 percent support on the question of who would be the favorite vice-presidential candidate. She lit up the crowd at the annual meeting of conservative activists and even seemed kiss a portrait of Trump on stage.
“My goal is to be in the office of the governor of Arizona,” he continued in his statement. ‘I won the election and everyone in Arizona knows it. We the people deserve the leaders we elect to serve in the office we elect them to.’

“Our best days are yet to come and it all starts with the election of America First candidates across the country,” he added.
A Court of Appeals last month refused his electoral challenge to Democrat Katie Hobbs, after she was defeated by 17,117 votes and tried to appeal an earlier Maricopa County Superior Court ruling.
Lake traveled to Iowa’s presidential testing grounds last month, where he told the Registration in Des Moines she would help Trump “in any way she can.” She also said at the time that she was “not running for vice president” and “not running for president.”
Trump is still planning his own return to Iowa, and faces a competitive race in which he will need to best potential challengers such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis before he can vet a running mate.
Lake’s comments come later Axios reported that Trump is already considering Lake as a possible vice-presidential pick, and that she is among several possible candidates. The report says Trump considers the telegenic lake a “model” vice presidential photo and cites people who have discussed the matter with the former president. She highlights her loyalty to Trump, having accepted many of his voter fraud claims.
Respect is mutual. Lake, who traveled to Mar-a-Lago immediately days after polls closed in November and refused to concede defeat.
She said in her remarks at CPAC’s Ronald Reagan dinner, where she kissed Trump’s portrait: “We support JFK, Ronald Reagan, Steve Bannon. We support Donald J. Trump.’
Bannon is the former Trump White House chief strategist who won a presidential pardon as one of Trump’s last acts in office.
There have been reports for months that Trump is interested in considering a running mate.
That comes in the middle of an electoral analysis, as one of the Brookings Institutionwhich showed suburban women providing a critical push to Joe Biden in battleground states, with Biden garnering a 613,000 vote lead over Trump, compared to Trump’s $1.2 million vote lead over Hillary Clinton in 2016: a swing of 2 million votes.
Also on his list is former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who is hosting another political event in her home state in mid-March.
Haley was well received at the conservative gathering (skipped by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential Trump rival). She was interrupted with cheers of ‘Trump!’ while she walked through the halls of the annual meeting of curators.
The closest he came to upsetting Trump was when he told a crowd: “Our cause is right, but we have failed to win the trust of the majority of Americans.”

Another option is new Arkansas governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a former Trump White House press secretary who gave the Republican response to Biden’s State of the Union address and warned against waking up.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung sought to shoot down initial speculation, which comes after Trump has held only a few events since launching his White House campaign, with initial positioning still underway. The former governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, announced days ago that he would remain on the sidelines, seeking to avoid a chain clash that could help Trump.
He New York Times reported last week that in a call last week, Trump asked his former supporter to endorse him and that she told him she wasn’t ready to do so. The report characterized Trump as “disappointed but not angry” about it.
The foursome aren’t the only women in the mix. Last month, Bannon publicly introduced Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who has become a fundraising powerhouse and a prominent supporter of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
