Terrifying passenger threatens to ‘kill every man on this plane’ before ‘hijacking’ Boston to LA jet

Terrifying footage has been released of the moment a passenger on a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston went berserk and threatened to “kill every man on this plane.”

Francisco Severo Torres, 33, of Leominster, Massachusetts, was charged with one count of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members using a dangerous weapon after stabbing a flight attendant with a broken spoon.

In video shot by a fellow traveler sitting just a few feet away, Torres can be heard threatening to commit mass murder while inciting others to try and stop him.

Torres could be seen standing in his seat as he yelled at those seated around him.

The video then sees Torres get up from his seat and make a threatening gesture with his arms to create an invisible rifle.

‘So where’s Homeland Security with a gun? Because I am waiting for the gun to be pointed at me to show everyone that I will die when I take all the bullets out of that magazine, and I will kill all the men on this plane,” Torres threatens.

So where are they? Where is Homeland Security? Get the gun out! Get the gun out! Won’t you try to stop me? he rants

‘Where are they diverting us? Because wherever they do it, there will be a bloodbath everywhere. You can run if you want. I will not kill you. I’m Balthazar. Or he raises his hands, because I’m Balthazar…since I’m taking charge of this plane.’

Watching passengers could be heard exclaiming ‘oh God’ as they witnessed Torres’ antics that saw him dash into the aisle and announce that he was heading to the cabin.

As he proceeded down the aisle, he approached two flight attendants who were getting in his way and used the spoon to make stabbing motions, striking a flight attendant three times in the neck.

He was held up by other passengers who rushed from the back of the plane along with other flight attendants.

A United Airlines plane is seen taking off in this file photo from earlier this year.

As the nightmare drama in the cockpit unfolded on the flight deck, the flight captain radioed air traffic control to tell them that the passengers had detained Torres but that he was “not going quietly,” and that six people held him down as the plane came down to the ground.

Torres had boarded United Airlines Flight 2609 Sunday in Los Angeles, bound for Boston.

He had been silent for most of the flight when just 45 minutes before landing, a cabin crew member noticed how an emergency exit had been tampered with.

A flight attendant saw that the door lock handle had moved out of the fully locked position about a quarter of the way toward the unlocked position.

The emergency slide arming lever had also been moved to the disarmed position, authorities said. The crew secured the door and slide.

Another flight attendant had noticed Torres near the door and believed he had tampered with it. The crew told the captain that he was a threat and that the plane had to land as soon as possible.

The captain told air traffic control that they had had an incident.

“The person is arrested, attempt to open an external emergency door,” he said, in audio obtained by CBS Boston.

‘That person was subdued and is being detained right now; He doesn’t go quietly though: he’s just lying there with six trained bodies on top of him.’

United praised the quick thinking of the crew and passengers.

“Thanks to the swift action of our crew and customers, a customer was restrained after becoming a security concern on a flight from Los Angeles to Boston,” United said in a statement.

‘The flight landed safely and was met by the police. No serious injuries were reported.

The airline said Torres was immediately banned from flying on its flights.

“We have zero tolerance for any form of violence on our flights, and this customer will be banned from flying United pending investigation. We are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.

A passenger told investigators that Torres had asked where on the security card it showed where the door handle was located during the flight attendants’ pre-takeoff safety briefing.

Another said Torres was seen walking around the plane before attacking the attendant.

The charge of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon carries a sentence of up to life in prison, up to five years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
