Deputy Liberal leader Sussan Ley has arrived in Parliament wearing an 80s style wig and dressing up as her ‘alter ego’ Tina Ley-na Turner to raise money for charity.

Ms Ley appeared in the House of Representatives before a hesitant crowd on Tuesday in a black shirt, pearls and the frizzy blonde mullet wig as part of a “challenge” from her community.

She said, “I’m here today as my alter ego, Tina (Ley-na) Turner.

“At a cancer-fighting fundraiser in Griffith last Friday, my singing partner challenged the 700-strong crowd to reach a goal of $100,000 — but only if I took Tina to Parliament House.”

Describing cancer as a “harder curse in the land with the tyranny of distance,” she revealed that the $100,000 total amount was later doubled after she accepted the terms of the challenge.

“I want to thank the generosity of the Griffith community. In the Riverina, we just get things done.

“Two years ago I announced about $5 million from the coalition government for a new cancer center in Griffith.

“Now that money gets you the bricks and mortar, but more is always needed for patient care, medical costs and equipment.”

Last week, Ms Ley performed at an event to raise money for the care home, which will open in May.

Video footage of the performance shows Ms. Ley dancing and singing alongside radio DJ Starry for Triple M Riverina.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ms Ley appeared on 2GB Radio to criticize Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his superannouncement.

“This is a dishonest prime minister. He has cheated the Australian people,” she said.

“Now he is breaking promises, in fact he is breaking promises he made hundreds of times before the last election, and he is ramming policies through parliament that he didn’t even mention.

“This is a perfect example… if you’re 37 years old and you want to invest more in your super, in 30 years you’ve actually been told that what is described today as $3 million dollars has shrunk to about $ 1 million. Now we have enough trouble convincing young people to invest in super and now they see the goalposts changing.’
