Boston Red Sox infielder Justin Turner was left bloody and taken to hospital but is “stable and alert” after being struck in the head by a wild pitch from Detroit Tigers’ Matt Manning during the spring training.
Boston Red Sox infielder Justin Turner was taken to a hospital after leaving Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers when he caught a face pitch.
The 38-year-old fell to the ground after being hit by right-hander Matt Manning. Medical personnel rushed to the plate and Turner was bleeding and had a towel on his face as he walked off the field.
“He is receiving treatment for soft tissue injuries and is being monitored for a concussion,” the Red Sox said in a statement.
It will undergo further testing and we will update it as we have more information. Justin is stable, alert and in good spirits given the circumstances.
The two-time All-Star signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Red Sox during the offseason after spending the last nine years with the Dodgers.
He hit .278 with 13 home runs and 81 RBIs in 128 games last season.
In better news for the Sox, they managed to dismantle Detroit, winning the game in Fort Myers, 7-1.
More to come.
