DokeV: trailer, news and what we know so far
DokeV is a third-person creature battler from South Korean developer Pearl Abyss.
Coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC, DokeV seems to take Pokemon Scarlet and Violet formula and turns it on its head, by making its monster battles happen in real time. Although the game is still based around collecting creatures, the beautiful graphics and the cute but absurd-looking Dokebi you will collect definitely add value. DokeV its own unique taste.
Although we haven’t seen much of it yet DokeV aside from a trailer in 2011, the preview itself looked promising. Combat looked fluid and fast-paced, while the title’s vibrant colors and signature style seemed almost magical in their bold simplicity. While much of the game is still shrouded in mystery, we’ve gathered all possible information for your reading pleasure.

DokeV: release date and platforms
We don’t have a release window for it yet DokeV. Since we haven’t heard anything major since the Gamescom 2021 reveal nearly a year ago, it doesn’t look like it’ll be arriving any time soon, so we’re speculating 2023 at the earliest.
In terms of platforms, we currently know it’s coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One. It’s unlikely to come to the Nintendo Switch in any capacity, though we’ve seen plenty of cloud versions coming to the hybrid machine in recent times.

A new trailer for DokeV was shown during The Game Awards 2021, where the official music video for a song written especially for the game was shown. ‘Rockstar’ is exactly the kind of catchy K-pop bop you’d expect. In addition, it uses in-game footage and again shows how impressive it is DokeV’s graphics and animations are. Check it out below.

DokeV: gameplay
DokeV’It’s an open-world action-adventure, although this wasn’t always the case. Originally billed as an MMO, Pearl Abyss decided to move away from this approach, leaving them free to do their own thing without the preconceptions of the genre.
There are all kinds of wacky, beautifully designed creatures to help you in battle. According to the official website, these creatures are known as Dokebi, and the bizarre designs range from an alarm clock wearing headphones to a panda/polar bear hybrid wearing a pair of boxing gloves. So basically peak character design.
Judging from the trailer, Dokebi appears to be stored in small prismatic discs and can be unleashed during combat encounters. Each seems to have its own capabilities that will help you in different ways, so we imagine choosing the right Dokebi for the job will often be key to success.
We also saw a surprisingly varied number of traversal options. Your character can move around on foot as expected, but also on hoverboards, bicycles and even a car. You can also float through the air, Fortnitestyle, via a fold-out parasol, which we imagine will come in handy for getting to specific places on the map quickly.
So far, these trailers contain many aspects that one could associate with a more social experience. This includes fishing, kite flying and hanging out on a beach. We’d like to think that some co-op experiences or hangouts will still be available for you to try DokeV when it releases.

Genre shift
DokeV was originally announced as an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) title when it was announced in 2019. However, in August 2021, Pearl Abyss confirmed that plans appear to have changed, with the developer moving from the MMO format to a more traditional action-based adventure . The official DokeV Twitter account said this in no uncertain terms:

This shift away from the MMO format has caused quite a bit of division in replies to the tweet. The MMO aspect was what many people were most looking forward to. Others felt that the more focused approach could lead to a better, more polished game.
If you want our two cents, the MMO space is already very competitive. So much so that it’s really hard for any MMO to gain a lasting foothold in space. With genre giants like World of Warcraft And FinalFantasy 14 on the block, any new MMO in the making should seriously impress to make a name for itself in the space.
