Jamie Carragher claims Gary Neville has ditched MNF after Man United defeat
Jamie Carragher claims Gary Neville has CANCELED his appearance on Monday Night Football after Liverpool’s 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United as the former Reds defender agrees with the fan that his fellow pundit has “bottling”.
It seems Gary Neville has yet to come to terms with Manchester United’s 7-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool, as he has “cried” appearing on Monday Night Football, according to Jamie Carragher.
MNF has become a successful show on Sky for Neville and Carragher, where they look at the key moments over the weekend before kicking off on Monday night.
But it seems Neville is still hurt from the beating his old team took and will be absent from the broadcaster’s coverage for Brentford against Fulham.
“Gary Neville has left MNF,” Carragher tweeted, accompanied by three smiley face emojis.
One fan thought Carragher might be pulling fast, but when asked if Neville had really “bottled himself”, the former Liverpool defender responded with the 100 emoji.
Both Neville and Carragher found themselves in the commentary, along with Martin Tyler, at Anfield as Manchester United were torn apart.
Liverpool were 1-0 up at half time through Cody Gakpo and Neville was optimistic that United had looked stronger for much of the first 45 minutes.
But Erik ten Hag’s side completely fell apart by the 45th second and Neville cut an exasperated figure on camera to Sky’s dedicated commentators as he slumped into his chair alongside a gleeful Carragher.
Ahead of further analysis of the United debacle, it now appears that Neville thought it best to stay out of the MNF studio.
Neville engaged in a heated studio debate with Graeme Souness on Sunday, accusing the former Liverpool star of saying “nonsense”.
It was a disastrous day for United and, along with Neville, Roy Keane was furious that “the circus is back in town” and called on some players to “go into hiding”.
Neville was furious with United’s display and although he will be accused of ‘bottling’ Monday Night Football if he misses it, he did not hold back on Sunday in his criticism of United’s stars.
“I’m going to start with Bruno Fernandes,” a furious Neville said in sky sports.
‘I’ve had enough of him throwing his arms around his teammates; I’ve had enough of him not running back; he complains about everyone.
He added: ‘They pushed him in the chest and he fell clutching his face. He has to show the performance of a captain and that was not the performance of a captain from a Manchester United player.”
The Portuguese midfielder was also branded as embarrassing.
“Some of Fernandes’ behavior in this half has been disgraceful,” Neville said after the first 45 minutes. In the end, he was even more appalled before trying to shift the focus to how United come out of this.
“I think Erik ten Hag is going to come up against them very strongly in the next 24-48 hours, he has already done so several times this season,” Neville added.
“I expect normal service to resume at the end of next week.”
