During the event, she appeared on stage alongside Zoe Blaskey for a live edition of the Motherkind podcast, discussing her own experiences.

Asked by the host how she was doing, Kate shared that she had brought 11-year-old Tia to the event with her.

‘Some days are great and others are just a total burnout. But today is great, maybe it’s because not all the children are here. Tia is here, my daughter Tia, she asked me to say hi to her,’ she began.

Host Zoe asked how he managed to successfully navigate a blended family with Rio and his children, whom he shared with his late wife Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015 of cancer.

Admitting that it hasn’t been easy, Kate recalled focusing so much on making sure all the kids were okay that she didn’t have time for herself.

Looking back at the time, he shared: ‘Physically I felt like I was having a mini-breakdown and I didn’t even know how to make time for myself. I got lost, I couldn’t even get dressed.’

But now, by taking time to hit the gym and enjoy activities on her own, Kate has managed to strike a healthier balance.

And sharing that the birth of his son Cree has brought the family closer as a unit, he admitted there were initial concerns before his arrival.

“When Cree came along, we were a little nervous because he’s my first biological child, so we didn’t know how he would fit into the mix, but he’s been great and brought us all closer,” she explained.

Continuing: ‘It’s just a crazy house, it’s full of fun and laughter and madness. I can’t take a bath in peace, I look at Tia when I say that. So now, I announce when I’m going to take a shower and say “maybe I’ll come in when you’re taking a shower” and that usually makes them stop.

Kate also hosts a podcast of her own Blended, which is for support and conversation with other families who have blended children in the mix.

Sharing how she and Rio have made it to where they are now, she defined it as: ‘Leading with heart, consistency and just being a real team.’
