With 333,000 subscribers on YouTube and 323,000 followers on Instagram, Michelle Gooris, aka DutchPilotGirlshe’s definitely a social media star on paper.
But he says he doesn’t feel like one, that he feels “like a pilot telling/sharing my story with the world and trying to inspire other people.”
And by all accounts, she’s doing a great job.
Michelle, 31, is a Boeing 737 pilot for a Dutch airline who posts fascinating cockpit view videos of some of her flights, skillfully produced, with on-screen explanations of what the pilots are doing and watching. Also, the interesting geography below is signposted.
His followers clearly appreciate the effort he puts into, describing his footage as “informative”, “engaging” and “beautifully done”.

A stunning blonde, Michelle is also upending the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype.
She tells MailOnline Travel: ‘Sometimes people don’t expect [women] being a pilot, but that’s only the case for people outside of the aviation industry. In my company, I feel that they treat me as one of the others. I have never experienced not being taken seriously or overt sexism. However, I have heard other stories from other women, so I won’t say that it doesn’t happen at all.
Women are a clear minority in the piloting community, but do you feel the glass ceiling has weakened for them?

MailOnline first spoke to Michelle six years ago when her social media videos began to go viral. And they continue to attract a large number of clicks. Michelle recently posted an amazing video of a landing at Keflavik Airport in Iceland, with 515,000 views to date.

Michelle, who lives in Amsterdam, says: ‘We are in the minority, actually, but I see improvements. Today there are more women pilots than ever before, so I think we are going in the right direction. I don’t feel that progressing in the aviation industry is more difficult as all exams and tests are the same. It all comes down to seniority and it won’t go any faster or slower due to gender.”

To the untrained eye, it looks like a tricky landing, with the runway situated right next to the sea.
But landing there is all in a day’s work for Michelle.
She says: “The runway is shorter than usual and there is terrain nearby, but landing there is not considered difficult.”
While there, he loves to “rent a quad to explore” and “have a frappe while visiting places like Fira and Imerovigli.”
