Dortmund 2-1 Leipzig: Dortmund take top spot in the Bundesliga after Marco Reus and Emre Can’s goals over the opposition with the referee showing SEVEN yellow cards… as the hosts prepare for the clash with Chelsea in the Champions League
Borussia Dortmund took the lead in the Bundesliga title race after an important win over RB Leipzig to move three points ahead of Bayern Munich after having played one more game, following goals from Marco Reus and Emre Dog.
Reus put the hosts 1-0 ahead early on after winning a penalty after a tackle from Janis Blaswich, before converting the penalty past the RB Leipzig keeper.
Dortmund then doubled their lead in the 39th minute after Can’s shot was deflected from the edge of the box, with Die Schwarzgelben holding on for an important win ahead of a trip to Chelsea in the Champions League.
Emil Forsberg finally made the breakthrough in the 73rd minute after heavy pressure from the visitors in the second half, with the Swede converting David Raum’s cross at the far post.
The visitors continued to push for an equaliser, but after being reduced to ten following an injury to Xaver Schlager with all his changes made, Dortmund held on with Mats Hummels coming off the bench to bolster the defence.
Marco Reus opened the scoring for the locals in the 21st minute from the penalty spot
Emre Can then doubled the lead before the half-time whistle with a deflected shot from distance.
With the win over their rivals, Borussia Dortmund retook the lead in the Bundesliga title race.
