Surveillance video captured the moment two military trucks chased a van driven by an American man before he and four other youths were shot after it allegedly failed to stop and crashed into a car, an autopsy report revealed.

Gustavo Suárez was driving his friends home in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck after they had left a local nightclub and was seen speeding down a street with its lights off in the northern border city of Nuevo Laredo on Sunday.

The 21-year-old refused to stop after being instructed by soldiers and lost control of the van before crashing into a parked car, according to a police report.

The soldiers then fired 12 shots at Suárez, who divided his time between his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo.

The newspaper El País reported on Saturday that Suárez had found out he was going to be a father for the first time.

Wilberto Mata, who was sitting in the passenger seat, received 10 bullets and died.

The autopsy report showed that Gustavo Pérez died after being shot twice: in the side and in the right forearm.

Another victim, Alejandro Trujillo, died from five shots. Jonathan Aguilar did not survive after being struck in the temple.

Luis Gerardo was shot twice and had been in an induced coma since Thursday.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, came out in defense of the six men and criticized the response of the military.

The leftist leader said he would not allow the execution of civilians, even if it meant the assassins were targeted in an operation.

‘The authority, in this case the Prosecutor’s Office, has to carry out the complete investigation and also clarify one thing, even if it has to do with alleged hitmen, the execution of anyone cannot be allowed, we are no longer in the time to kill them in the heat of the moment or to end them. Nothing of that.’

The director of the Nuevo Laredo Human Rights Committee, Raymundo Ramos, confirmed to DailyMail.com on Wednesday that 12 soldiers were present during the shooting and that four admitted to firing their weapons.

The Defense Department said in a statement that the soldiers began firing when they heard the loud crash, but did not say whether the military thought the loud impact was a gunshot.

The soldiers were ordered to stand down and stop shooting by their captain, who has only been identified by his first name, Elio, according to a police report.

The report also stated that Captain Elio did not order the four soldiers to fire on the vehicle.

Pérez’s brother, Alejandro Pérez, was unharmed and told Univision that he saw the moment his brother was shot at point-blank range.

He revealed that the soldiers forced him to make a video statement stating that the group was responsible for the incident in exchange for sparing his life.

The murder in the dangerous border city of Nuevo Laredo sparked a violent confrontation between friends and relatives of the victims and the military on Sunday.

Video footage recorded by a bystander showed Suárez’s visibly shaken father, Humberto Suárez, attacking a soldier as the military tried to remove the van from the scene.
