Byron Bay music festival Bluesfest was forced to drop Australian indie rock band Sticky Fingers from its lineup and issued a scathing statement in support of the band.

The Sydney rockers were scheduled to play the festival in April this year, but were pulled after several other bands scheduled to play complained about them.

The inclusion of Sticky Fingers ruffled some people’s feathers as their frontman, Dylan Frost, allegedly physically threatened indigenous singer-songwriter Thelma Plum in 2016.

Bluesfest’s Instagram page posted an announcement on Instagram on Thursday informing their fans that they had been forced to drop Sticky Fingers from their lineup.

“Bluesfest cannot continue to support Sticky Fingers by having them play our 2023 edition,” the statement began.

We apologize to the artists and patrons we involved in this matter due to our mistaken belief that forgiveness and redemption are the rock on which our society is built.

‘The narrative that they continue to deserve to be canceled is difficult to accept, in which a part of society and the media pass eternal judgment on a person diagnosed with mental illness.

They added that the band had helped the community in many ways and that they were not happy to leave them.

“Sticky Fingers has done so many good works that have never been reported, including funding music education programs in disadvantaged regional communities.”

Many Bluesfest fans went into a frenzy and shut down the page for their ‘non-apology’.

‘Who is making these press releases? What a at*sser,’ commented one irate fan.

Another wrote: ‘Either accept the decision made or apologize. Don’t spout no apology crap. This reads really immature.’

The Byron Bay Bluesfest has been an annual event for 34 years and will take place from Thursday 6th April to Monday 10th April.
