‘We won’t stop here’: Erik ten Hag insists Man United’s Carabao Cup win ‘will only make us hungrier for more success’ as he pens an open letter to fans after ending his six-year wait for the silver medal
Erik ten Hag has penned an open letter to Manchester United fans following Sunday’s Carabao Cup triumph, vowing it will only make the club hungrier for more success.
A 2-0 win over Newcastle at Wembley brought United’s first trophy in six years and Ten Hag’s first since he took over 10 months ago.
The Dutchman spoke enthusiastically about his love for United after the match, and he followed that up on Monday by writing to fans to express how much he values their support.
“I wanted to take the time to address you directly this morning,” Ten Hag wrote. “When I arrived at the club, we talked about the challenge and the importance of bringing this group of players together with our incredible fans.
‘Believe me, this squad knows exactly how important you are. The bond between the fans and the team is there for all to see and what we experienced together yesterday will only further strengthen that bond.
Erik ten Hag has been adamant that the Carabao Cup win may be the first of several trophy victories for United
The Man United manager wrote an open letter to thank the club’s fans for their support of the team
‘The atmosphere you created at Wembley was incredible. From the first minute to the last you were there with us, driving the team, supporting them and encouraging them to cross the line to bring the trophy back to Manchester.
‘For those of you who couldn’t be there, we felt your support before, during and after the game. Know that each and every one of you will always do your part in the success of this team.
‘I am proud of my players and staff for their preparation and performances. Yesterday we saw the desire, the spirit and the determination that we must demand from all those who represent Manchester United.
‘We set ourselves high standards every day. At Wembley we met those demands and were rewarded with our first trophy together.
‘We know the importance of cutlery throughout the history of this great club. We are very happy to bring the trophy back to Old Trafford, but we are by no means satisfied and we will not stop there.
“Together we have experienced the feeling of what it means to win together for Manchester United. It is truly magnificent and will only make each of us hungry for more success.
Ten Hag said the team are fully focused on their FA Cup tie on Wednesday after the win.
‘This group has made great strides in recent months, but there is much more to come. I can assure you that all of us at Carrington will work hard because we know that this club and you, our supporters, deserve more great days like this.
“We will return to work today, with full focus now on preparing to face West Ham in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.
There will be no complacency in our desire to get this club back to where we want to be.
Know that you are vital to what we want to achieve and take yesterday as proof of what can happen when we all stand together. Thank you for your support and dedication.’
