Fresh Meat actress Kimberley Nixon has shared her honest experience of postpartum depression.

The 37-year-old Cranford star has opened up about the challenges she faced while suffering from her mental health when she gave birth to her son Theodore, whom she shares with husband Cai Howells.

Posting a tearful photo of herself on Monday, Kimberley explained that the photo was taken two years ago, three months after she gave birth.

She said she now wants to raise awareness about the condition, stating: “I won’t shut up until things change.”

‘My baby was three months old. He didn’t understand what was happening to me.

‘I thought I had lost my mind/myself/my life and I didn’t know WHY?!

“I think I took this photo in a moment of hope that in a few weeks I would be ‘normal’ again and this would be a fun memory.” Remember those crazy baby blues?

It wasn’t baby blues. It was a severe postnatal mental health condition.

‘Two years later, I am a different person. I have learned a lot. I have come to understand a lot.

‘But I’m still so angry because when I needed help, I begged for help, it wasn’t there.

‘They made me feel more isolated and ‘other’ than I already did and that sent me on a downward spiral because it reinforced my thinking that I was beyond help.

It was not. I had a highly treatable and understandable condition as a reaction to my traumatic birth during the pandemic, but no one told me.

And I won’t shut up until things change.

‘You’re not broken, you’re not a bad mother, you’re not beyond help, you just don’t have the right information yet.

“I’m also mad that when you’re looking for a postnatal hashtag, it’s all about getting as skinny as possible as soon as possible.”

The star has also opened up about her struggles with perinatal OCD.

Perinatal OCD is when people experience OCD during pregnancy or in the first year after delivery.

He said that ‘OCD isn’t just about cleanliness and germs. It can be any intrusive and taboo thought that repeats itself in your mind and torments you to the limit. It is mental torture and unbearable to live with her.
