The Today show is thrown into live chaos when a fire alarm sounds in the studio and the hosts are warned to “evacuate now”.

Channel Nine’s Today show was thrown into chaos on Monday morning when a fire alarm sounded in the studio during a live segment.

Hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo were welcoming viewers after a commercial break when an alarm went off warning staff to “evacuate now”.

“That’s something you don’t hear every day,” Sarah said in surprise when newscaster Brooke Boney asked, “What do we do? It’s news time.

“I’m not very nervous, I can’t smell the smoke,” Karl added.

“For everyone watching in Australia, I know you are personally concerned about our safety at this time. I do not want you to worry.

Karl continued, “I’ll make some calls, you make the news, and we’ll see what happens.”

Before continuing with the news bulletin, Brooke asked, ‘Can you all hear me? I’ll just go with the flow, until someone tells me not to.

After the alarm ended, Sarah revealed that Karl had decided to leave the studio.

‘Now, if you were looking earlier, there was an alarm that went off. It was just a drill,” she told viewers.

But my co-host Karl has decided to evacuate the building anyway. Anything for an early pass, right? Where is? We have sent our team to look for him.

Karl was then seen hiding under a desk covered in artificial greenery.

“Unlike all of you, I take workplace health and safety very seriously,” he said before Sarah quipped, “I think the biggest threat to the newsroom is you, Karl.”
