Harry Kane wears special boots against Chelsea to honour striker breaking Jimmy Greaves’ record

Harry Kane will wear special custom boots against Chelsea on Sunday to honor the Tottenham striker who broke Jimmy Greaves’ goalscoring record.

The 29-year-old England captain broke the record held by the star striker of the 1960s after scoring the only goal in a win over Manchester City in early February.

The club took to social media to post an image of the boots, inscribed ‘ALL-TIME TOP SCORER’ and the date ‘05.02.2023’, ahead of the London Derby.

The date marks the day Kane broke the record, which had stood for 53 years, while ‘267’ on the heels signifies the number of goals he has scored for Spurs.

It comes after he was honored with a special trophy ahead of last week’s game against West Ham.

Engraved on the heel is the number 267, Jimmy Greaves’ record-breaking number of goals.

Kane was greeted on the pitch by Greaves’ widow Irene and daughter Mitzi Robinson, who presented him with the award along with fellow Spurs legend Ledley King.

The trophy features a Nike boot worn by the Tottenham talisman placed on a pedestal listing the 267 goals scored by the opponent and the date in chronological order.

Later, Kane took to the pitch for the London derby with his two daughters, Ivy and Vivienne, who wore jerseys with the name ‘Daddy’ on the back and the number 267 to mark their record-breaking feat.

In addition, Spurs supporters also paid tribute with one end of the pitch revealing a crowd motif reading ‘HARRY’.

Kane couldn’t find the net that day, but his team triumphed in a vital 2-0 Premier League win.

After the match, Kane stated that Spurs must now stay focused through a turbulent few weeks that included a Champions League loss to AC Milan, a 4-1 loss to Leicester City and also seeing their manager Antonio Conte struggling to make a full recovery after gallbladder surgery.

The legendary Greaves had held the record after his goals throughout the 1960s.

“We’re in a pretty good place in fourth place,” Kane told Sky Sports. ‘We are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League. We have a lot to play for and we need to stay focused on that, we have a week to go before the Chelsea game so hopefully we’ll be ready.”

Kane also revealed that he had encouraged his teammates when asked if there was any truth to Son’s claims that clear talks had taken place at the club amid the slump.

“When you lose a couple of games or things haven’t been going so well, the leaders and more experienced players like to talk and help the situation as much as possible with the staff and coaches,” Kane said.
