Turkey is rocked by a powerful 5.5 magnitude earthquake just weeks after being torn apart by a catastrophe that left 50,000 dead and more than a million homeless

A powerful earthquake has struck Turkey again today amid the nation’s struggle to recover from a series of disasters this month.

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake has been reported to hit central Turkey, just days after two other quakes hit the border near Syria.

At 10:27 a.m., the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center raised the alarm that an earthquake hit the area at a depth of 10 km.

It comes at a time when both Turkey and Syria had begun work to rebuild homes for the millions displaced by the quakes.

More than 50,000 have died as a result of the ongoing destruction, but it is unclear how many have died as a direct result of today’s incident.

On Monday, a new 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Turkey and Syria that were devastated by a massive temblor that occurred two weeks earlier.

Authorities confirmed that three people died in the tremor on Monday after more buildings collapsed, trapping the occupants, and several people were injured in both countries.
