England have called up Will Jacks for the one-day leg of their white ball tour of Bangladesh following Tom Abell’s injury loss last week.
The original plan was for England to operate with a 14-man squad in the 50-over and Twenty20 series when Somerset captain Abell, without a salary cap, withdrew due to a lateral strain.
However, Jacks was called up early from Wellington, where he was an unused member of England’s Test tour, following a rethink.
He was scheduled to travel here next week, accompanied by Ben Duckett, for the three T20 internationals.
The 24-year-old Jacks has built a reputation as one of the hardest-hitting batsmen on the world circuit, crushing the Southern Brave attack with 108 from just 48 balls in last year’s Hundred, while his developing spin will provide an additional bowling option in Asian conditions.

The off-spin all-rounder made his Test and T20i debut against Pakistan last year.
Significantly, England’s ODI world title defense takes place in India later this year.
The Surrey and Oval Invincibles all-rounder is yet to win a one-day cap for England, but he played twice in last autumn’s 4-3 Twenty20 win in Pakistan and claimed six wickets on his Test debut in Rawalpindi earlier in December.
He was due to be in Dhaka in time for Sunday’s full-squad practice and will be considered for selection in the first of three ODIs on Wednesday.
That match in Mirpur begins just hours after the second Test in New Zealand concludes.
He replaced Tom Abell in the Bangladesh squad after the Somerset batsman was injured.
