A small spa town in Wales has the dubious honor of having the highest rate of MOT failure in Britain, according to new research.
Between June 2021 and June 2022, almost one in two cars booked for the annual roadworthiness test in Llandrindod, Powys, Wales fail the MOT.
More than half of the highest scrap rates are in Scotland, according to research collected by National Scrap Car.
The study authors said: ‘Booking your car for an MOT can be a nerve-wracking experience, you might think your car is in top condition, but you take it to your MOT and think it will pass and you get a fail. with a high bill to pay.’
Dundee, Scotland’s fourth largest city, has a failure rate of 38.7 percent.
Unsurprisingly, Londoners have the lowest dropout rates, according to the data.

The worrying breakdown figures come as the government considers relaxing rules about when cars must have their first MOT.
Ministers believe that motorists will appreciate the savings if they only have to inspect their car once every two years.
But road safety activists and motorists’ organizations oppose the plan, which they say could see cars and motorcycles with serious defects on the road.
According to National Scrap Car, “Renault was crowned the overall worst automaker for an MOT with a failure rate of 37 percent. Renault, the French marque dating back to 1899, has proved quite popular in the UK with 48,728 sales in 2021.
In second place came the iconic British manufacturer MINI with an overall failure rate of 30.2 per cent – despite only having 5 models in its range.

The National Office for Transport, Public Works and Water Management is currently discussing the future of APK inspections.
The tests were first introduced in the 1960s and currently apply to most vehicles from the time they are three years old.

Ministers believe that dramatic improvements in car reliability and safety mean that the first legal test without safety problems could be delayed for another 12 months.
Given that the price of an MOT costs nearly £60, spreading the tests out could save motorists money.
Last year, however, the Motor Ombudsman was concerned that motorists were skimping on car maintenance because of the cost-of-living crisis.
According to the RAC, almost one in five cars fail the MOT due to problems with the lights or indicators.
About 13 percent of breakdowns are due to suspension problems, followed by 10 percent of drivers with faulty brakes.
Tires are the cause of 7.7 percent of failures, while “problems affecting the driver’s view of the road” are responsible for 7.2 percent of failures.
