Darren Fletcher’s twin sons line-up AGAINST each other in international U-16 clash

Now that’s a sibling rivalry! The twin sons of Man United icon Darren Fletcher line up AGAINST in the Under-16 international clash, with Tyler following in his father’s footsteps to play for Scotland while Jack turns out for England

  • Darren Fletcher played 50 games for Scotland and over 300 for Manchester United.
  • His twin sons have now met in a Scotland vs England youth game.
  • Both play for Man City at youth level, one of them already plays in the Under-18s

Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher watched his twin sons play each other on Thursday, one representing his native Scotland and the other playing for England.

The Auld Enemy clash came at an under-16 tournament in Cyprus, when 15-year-old Tyler started for Scotland while his twin, Jack, who fills a similar midfield role to their father, played for England.

There was also a Luca Fletcher playing for England, who is not related to the twins.

It was Jack who came out on top in the clash as England beat Scotland 3-0 after Stuart Glennie’s side had also lost to Denmark in the tournament.

Despite their father’s role as manager at United, both twins play for Manchester City and were both initially part of the Scotland setup, prior to Jack’s recent England call-up.

The midfielder seems to be highly valued at the Etihad and has already featured in City’s Under 18s.

Fletcher, who won five Premier League titles and one Champions League title with United as well as making 80 appearances for Scotland, now faces the difficult circumstances of watching his son Jack show promise for his previous two teams’ arch-rivals.

There are other current internationals who represent countries other than their brothers.

Leicester’s recent signing, the 6ft 7in defender Harry Souttar interviewed recently by Sportsmail, plays for Australia while his brother John has been capped six times by Scotland.

Granit Xhaka and her brother Taulant also play for different national teams, as do Jerome Boateng and Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Away from his son’s fledgling careers, Darren Fletcher’s day job seems to be going great, with United currently in contention for an unlikely quadruple.

Their 2-1 win over Barcelona on Thursday put Erik ten Hag’s side into the Europa League round of 16, while on Sunday they face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, sitting just five points behind. league leaders Arsenal and are still in the FA Cup.

After Liverpool’s hangover from their quadruple drive last year, United will need to be cautious in managing player workloads as the season progresses.
