New Sydney Sweeney Movie Picked Up By HBO Films After Rave Reviews

Sydney Sweeney’s new film, Reality, is picked up by HBO Films after rave reviews at the Berlin Film Festival…in time to “qualify for Emmy consideration.”

The rights to the film Reality, starring Sydney Sweeney, have been acquired by HBO Films.

According Deadlinethe dramatic feature received ‘rave reviews’ from critics during its premiere at the 73rd Berlinale International Film Festival.

The 25-year-old Euphoria star, who attended the film’s premiere this week, was singled out for her performance.

Although no release date has been announced, the outlet hinted that Reality will be available “in the near future” and just “in time to qualify for Emmy consideration.”

Reality is based on Tina Satter’s play This Is A Room, which initially made its Off-Broadway debut in 2019.

Satter served as the film’s director and co-wrote the script along with James Paul Dallas.

The film centers on whistleblower Reality Winner, who was arrested after she leaked information about Russian interference in the 2016 United States election season to The Intercept.

The film focuses on the interrogation by FBI agents that Winner underwent after his arrest.

The former US Air Force member was eventually sentenced to more than five years in prison in 2018, but eventually entered a transition center in 2021.

Development on Reality was revealed to the public last June, and Marchant Davis and Josh Hamilton starred in the project alongside Sweeney.

Physical production on the feature had already begun the previous month and wrapped up after just 16 days of filming.

Reality finally premiered on February 18 and currently has a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes.

Sweeney discussed working on the project during an interview with the hollywood reporterwhere he revealed that he regularly contacted Winner during the film’s production.

“I talked to her about the incident, but also about her life, the people she knew, her home, almost everything I was able to learn about her and what I was able to take away from as an actor,” he said.

The interpreter went on to say that working on the film, which largely followed the verbatim recording of Winner’s interrogation, left a lasting impression on her.

“I definitely felt the weight of the importance of every word and every moment shared between these characters,” he said.

Sweeney then discussed what he hoped to achieve for Winner with the release of the film.

“I hope that instead of reducing her to a simple headline, or interpreting the case through a partisan lens, this film can offer a window into what this woman went through that day,” she said.
