‘My treatment is ongoing for breast cancer. It was quite difficult to recover from the surgery just because it is quite sensitive when the lymph nodes are removed. There are some mobility issues at the beginning.
She recalled: “The first round of chemotherapy was really intense, it was quite toxic,” before adding: “I had radiation therapy for a while to try to kill off the leftover cells.”
Samantha previously revealed that her breast cancer was found during ‘random screening’ and said the disease has ‘attacked’ her ‘femininity’.
Speaking on This Morning, Samantha said she didn’t find a lump when she was diagnosed four months ago, saying her cancer was discovered in a random checkup.
“It was really amazing because I didn’t find a lump, I didn’t feel bad,” she explained.
“There were a lot of illnesses around our friends and family and I thought they would randomly check me up and I had an ultrasound, and it showed a little shadow, at which point it could be anything, a cyst…so I had further investigations and then that diagnosis.
Samantha described herself as “very lucky” because the lump was less than 2cm in size and she was able to have a lumpectomy to remove the piece of tissue and five lymph nodes.
She went on to describe breast cancer as a disease that ‘attacks’ your ‘body’ and ‘femininity’ and urged other women to get checked out.
She said: ‘Breast cancer is strange, it attacks your body and your femininity, your hair, your breasts, all these beautiful women of all ages.
“Many women should check themselves in their thirties. That’s an important message to convey and verify as well.’
The actress also described the fight against cancer as “terrifying” but praised the treatments now available to treat the disease.
