Jennifer Stone from Wizards of Waverly Place asked Austin Butler out
Jennifer Stone has opened up about a date she had with Austin Butler when they both worked at Wizards of Waverly Place.
The actress, now 30, starred on the hit Disney show for five years, from 2007 to 2012, as Harper, the best friend of Selena Gomez’s character Alex.
In 2010, the Elvis actor made an appearance on the show as Alex’s love interest, but it was Jennifer who had a crush on the future Oscar nominee.
“He was a big movie buff, which was something we really loved,” he revealed in his Wizards of Waverly Podcastwhile answering fan questions with David DeLuise, who played Jerry Russo.
‘I thought we should go see a movie, whatever. And this was… I think Blockbuster was still around. No, maybe it was Netflix back when they were still shipping DVDs… but he came over to the house and we went somewhere to get snacks and stuff.
Date: Jennifer Stone, 30, revealed that she and Austin Butler, 31, went on a date in 2010, after the actor appeared in an episode of Wizards of Waverly Place. “He was a huge movie buff, which we really loved,” she recalled on her Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast.
She remembered that they decided on Swimming with Sharks.
When David suggested that it could have been a kind of ‘Netflix and chill’ night, Jennifer replied ‘sort of’.
He then quickly added, “It wasn’t that for him at all.”
Austin, 31, began dating High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens shortly after her appearance on Wizards.
And they were together for nine years between 2011 and 2020.
He is now dating Cindy Crawford’s model daughter, 21-year-old Kaia Gerber.
Jennifer, who became a registered nurse, admitted that she would “always have a crush on all of Selena’s (TV) boyfriends.”
That was because “ever since I was a little girl…I’ve liked men,” she said.

However, her hopes for romance were often dashed.
“A lot of times what would happen is the guy would talk to me and we’d have a great time and I’d be like, ‘Oh, this is going great.'”
“And then at the end of the week, they’d give me their number to give to Selena.”
She added: “I don’t think Austin was one of these people, but that happened to me a lot, which was really crap.”
“It took me many years to get my confidence back with the guys, but now I’m doing well,” he joked in a “fake crying” voice.
Both she and David agreed that Wizards’ strength was the cast.
Crushes: Jennifer, who played Harper, Alex’s best friend on the show, admitted that she had crushes on a lot of guest stars, but “at the end of the week I’d get her number to give to Selena” but that Austin didn’t .
Reunion: The actress shared the story with former co-star David DeLuise during a Q&A on the podcast Both admitted that they would like to have a meeting, a show, but “it’s a matter of having a story to tell and a moment”
“Just like a good meal, each different little spice has to go together, we had all the little spices that went into it,” David explained.
“We had all 11 herbs and spices,” he agreed.
“We never care what people think…it was made for us, loving what we do and loving the people we work with.”
Both stars admitted they’d be up for a reunion show, but “it’s all about having the right story to tell and the right time.”
Gomez is now busy on her Only Murders In The Building series.
