Police are chasing ten people after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death during a terror fight near a children’s playground.

Ghassan Mohammed suffered multiple stab wounds before dying shortly before 10pm at Leonard Reserve in Roselands, southwest of Sydney, on Thursday night.

His body remained at the scene Friday morning, and a trail of blood could be seen by passersby at the playground and basketball courts.

Potential witnesses are now being questioned by police knocking on doors in an attempt to find out who was involved in the fight and how it started.

Police have been told numerous people were involved in the fight, with many last seen running west along nearby Myers Street.

Superintendent Sheridan Waldau said the scene was “very emotional” with the victims’ family arriving to find their loved one dead.

“It is very shocking, it is a tragic event,” he said in a statement.

‘We have a very young 24-year-old man who has passed away.

“Obviously it has a huge impact on his family and friends, and we want to know the reasons why this happened.”

“We know that there were several people there at the time,” he continued.

“We know that they know what happened and the reasons why it happened and we are appealing to those people to come forward.”

Police believe a fight broke out between two groups, but it was not gang related.

“We don’t think it’s a random attack,” he said.

“We think these two groups may have met.”

The superintendent added that it was “obviously a very concerning event” that the death occurred in a family park.

“We know there were multiple people there at the time and we know they know what happened,” he said Friday.

“We are calling on those people to come forward and provide us with that information so we can get a clearer picture of what happened.”

One woman said she had heard a fight in the lead up to the stabbing.

‘I heard a fight and a man yelled “Help, don’t stop!” and that was it,’ he wrote on Facebook.

“There was a blanket or a body bag on the basketball court.”
