Tommy Fury and Jake Paul agreed to a winner-take-all deal in a fiery pre-fight press conference ahead of their showdown on Sunday.
The bitter rivals are finally set to go head-to-head in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday, with the catwalks set to begin at around 9:30pm UK time, after previously scheduled bouts fell through twice.
The long-term enemies came face-to-face at Wembley Arena shortly before Artur Beterbiev stopped Anthony Yarde in January this year, but Fury opted to skip his announcement press conference in early February as bad news blood continued to linger between the couple. .
And the pair squared off again at their pre-fight press conference on Thursday night, where Mike Tyson, Derek Chisora and Tyson Fury were even in attendance.
During several heated exchanges, Fury maintained that he was extremely confident he would emerge victorious, prompting Jake Paul to challenge him to a winner-takes-all-money deal on Sunday.
Tommy Fury and Jake Paul agreed to a “winner take all” deal in a fiery pre-fight press conference ahead of their matchup.
The pair held back when tempers flared in the buildup to Saturday’s fight in Saudi Arabia.
The pair clashed, before Paul proposed to Fury a deal that the winner of the fight would keep all the money.
Fury had said: ‘Look into my eyes. They’ll put you to sleep in four rounds. I am a young and fresh fighter. You had two lucky escapes in this fight. You should have escaped, you have ruined your ticket, I am here to cut off your head.
Paul then replied: ‘I think we make a deal. If you win, I’ll pay you double what I’m already paying you, but if I win, I keep everything I’m paying you, since you’re so confident. Deal or no deal?
Fury then replied: ‘Why are you standing up? Sit down again. I’m going to leave you in the first round, you’re a shitty house’.
The pair then clashed and sought to go toe to toe before firmly agreeing to the proposed deal.
Paul then brought out Tommy’s father John, stating that “your father is more confident than you are” after a deal was struck.
John simply added: “If Jake Paul beats Tommy Fury, he doesn’t deserve to pay.”
Paul and Fury faced off again minutes later and continued against each other as they exchanged words as the atmosphere heated up before the press conference concluded.
It was the culmination of several tense moments in the press conference, with both fighters in extremely upbeat moods.
Paul (6-0) is looking to maintain his unbeaten record in the ring and comes into the fight off the back of a decision victory over MMA legend Anderson Silva. However, Fury will be the first professional boxer he has faced.
However, the American described Sunday’s matchup as an “easy ride” and claimed he had given Fury the “biggest opportunity of his life”.
He said: ‘I take every fight seriously. When Tommy says that he’s been doing it his whole life, it doesn’t mean a thing. This is the greatest opportunity of his life.
‘They were paying him peanuts compared to this. She has never been on a stage like this, she had an opportunity like this, she got paid something like this and she couldn’t even knock out the taxi drivers she fought with.
He’s a good boxer, he has inflatable arms. He is heavy as the Michelin man. His opponents have a combined record of 20 wins and 250 losses.
They have never put it up there with someone who wasn’t there to lose. He has never gone eight rounds. He will go into deep water and drown.
‘This is what I do. For me, this is a piece of cake and a piece of cake.’
Fury had responded belligerently, noting how Paul might have been successful in his initial forays into boxing, but the American had never come across anyone like him.
He said: ‘Even mentioning my name in the same sentence is disrespectful to me, who has been boxing all my life. I’m going to clinically knock this guy out.
‘His opponents have been between 40 and 50 years old. Everyone knows that MMA fighters are not boxers. They are not boxers and I couldn’t deal with them.
‘Still went eight rounds with him [Anderson Silva] and it seemed that he went through the trenches.
‘He will realize what boxing is. You have a good fighter here, and one who will take your head off.
Mike Tyson (left), Derek Chisora (right) and Tommy’s brother Tyson were on hand in Diriyah.
The pair exchanged various trash talks and both talked about their chances of winning the fight.
John Fury was in entertaining form and praised Paul but claimed that Tommy would knock him out.
John Fury had earlier been in typically entertaining fashion at the press conference, explaining how he admired Paul but was fully confident his son would deliver.
He said, ‘We’ve come here to do one thing, which is to call Jake Paul. There will be a loss for Jake, but good luck to him, he’s a good and smart boy and we wouldn’t be here without him, so Jake Paul, thank you very much.
“We have only been training for a knockout. People want to see clean, solid power shots early on. Who has the best chin and the biggest ‘you know what’ and I know my son is packing both.
On Monday, Tyson (Fury) will be the proudest brother in the world. Tommy will give Jake Paul a beating that even crazy Tyson would be proud of.
