Brenda Edwards breaks down in tears

Brenda Edwards broke down in tears on the one-year anniversary of her sister Jamal’s death Thursday as she paid tribute to him in a special documentary.

The 53-year-old TV presenter was heartbroken last February when Jamal died after a cardiac arrest caused by taking cocaine and drinking alcohol.

A clip from the documentary, where she appeared alongside her daughter Tanisha, was teased on Good Morning Britain before being shown on Loose Women.

In the clip, Tanisha talked about how the couple had tried to rebuild their lives as Brenda stood silently by her side as she wiped her teary eyes.

Tanisha recounted how she “had work to do” as she processed her grief for Jamal.

She added: ‘People have been supporting us and helping us and I’m so honored to have that.

‘Because even if I’m having a bad day and I want to fall, at the end of that bad day I think I really have something to do, I have work to do!’

Brenda then added that the support she has received has been a ‘blessing’ as she said her family now just has to ‘move on’.

She then became very emotional and began to cry as Tanisha hugged her gently.

In August, an inquest heard that music impresario Jamal died of cardiac arrest after a late-night session of cocaine and drink in which he became paranoid and began throwing objects across the room before losing consciousness.

Three small bags containing the remains of white powder were found on the 31-year-old son of Loose Women panelist Brenda after he collapsed at his west London home in February last year, the hearing was told.

West London Assistant Coroner Ivor Collett ruled that Edwards died after cardiac arrest brought on by taking cocaine and drinking alcohol.

His heartbroken mother, Brenda, described him as “a beautiful and selfless person” in a statement read out at the inquest.

Earlier this year, he said he wanted her death “to help spark more conversation about the unpredictability of recreational drugs.”

The DJ and founder of the online R&B/Hip-Hop platform SB.TV had returned to his home in Acton after 4am after playing North London gigs before sitting down for drinks with a friend, Nick Hopper, who lived in an annex of the house.

Mr Hopper said he “seemed like the same old man” and “they started chatting, smoking some weed and drinking”, but his famous friend opened up about the pressure he was under.

After a while, Mr. Edwards became erratic and paranoid and began throwing objects around the room before collapsing, according to the investigation.

Despite the best efforts of Mr. Hopper and later his uncle, Rodney Artman, as well as paramedics, Mr. Edwards did not wake up and was pronounced dead at 10:36 am on Sunday, February 20.

Last month, Brenda revealed that Ed Sheeran stayed at her house for a week after Jamal’s death.

She appeared on Good Morning Britain recently where she spoke about Jamal ahead of the first anniversary of his death.

She said, “When Jamal passed, Ed was at my house for literally a whole week with me and Tanisha.”

Brenda went on to say that Ed had done everything the family needed and that he had been like another son to her.

Ed was close friends with Jamal after the businessman established his music platform SBTV in 2006, which helped launch Ed’s career.

The singer has now revealed that he would help SBTV to relaunch F64 [Fresh 64]the platform’s flagship freestyle rap series.

He has written a freestyle verse dedicated to his late friend, releasing a clip of him performing it on an empty stage.

Brenda said, “Ed sent me the final edit a few days ago and I’ve been crying for days.”

Fighting back tears, she added, “Because I’ve been so busy, the year has gone by so quickly.”

In the song, Ed raps: ‘Yo Jam, this is a letter to you. It’s been a while, but it’s been hard for me to get into the cockpit.

“Since we last spoke, I have become a father of two, trying to live life with a smile, but that has been harder to do.

‘All I want to do is talk about you, but these tears won’t let me talk about you. We should have known we’d be lost without you.

“Therapy sessions for digging and depression, I have a life full of blessings, but this breaks my heart.”

Brenda took to Twitter to share Ed’s verse, writing: ‘I can’t believe it’s been almost a year. It still hurts like it was yesterday.

Thank you @edsheeran for always being there for my baby, Tanisha and I and the @SBTVonline family.
