Delta Goodrem reveals why she’s keeping her relationship out of the spotlight

Delta Goodrem has revealed why she likes to keep her relationship with guitarist boyfriend Matthew Copley out of the spotlight.

The Australian singer has had a series of high-profile romances, including Brian McFadden and Westlife’s Nick Jonas, and now she wants to be more low-key.

speaking to Australian Women’s WeeklyDelta admitted that she learned quite young that she prefers to keep her romantic relationships more private.

The couple first met while on tour in 2017 when Matthew is the guitarist in their band, and a year later it was revealed that they were official.

‘[Matthew] he’s my guitarist, I met him through music,’ Delta told the publication.

“It’s amazing to be on stage with him because he’s so talented. We really are a team.

“He’s my best friend, he’s kind and just a beautiful human being. But I learned quite young that I enjoy keeping some of it private.

“I’ve always been so understanding that I’ve lived in the public eye since I was a teenager, but I also think it’s good to keep some things to yourself.”

Speaking to InStyle Australia in 2018, the former Voice coach said she made the decision to keep her relationships out of the public eye when she turned 30.

“I made a conscious decision when I was 30 that I’m not one to want to talk about relationships,” the now 38-year-old said.

Delta said he still finds it difficult to talk about the death of Olivia Newton John as he continues to mourn his good friend and idol.

‘I did one [choice] that I’m not even going to comment “yes” or “no”… I haven’t said anything for three or four years, all I keep saying is “I’m single and I’ll let you know when I do.” I’m in a serious relationship.’ And I will.’

As the country prepares for the state memorial for Olivia Newton John in Melbourne, Delta said it is still hard for him to talk about her death as he continues to mourn his good friend and idol.

“I still don’t have the words,” he said.

I would love to be more eloquent with you. It’s very difficult for me to talk about it because I was very lucky to have such a special bond, a true kinship. We were always there for each other in a beautiful way as mentors and friends.’
