Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has reportedly carried out a series of progress reports as he looks to ensure the club continues to move up the Premier League table.
Al-Rumayyan is the governor of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which bought an 80 percent stake in Newcastle from previous owner Mike Ashley in October 2021.
Since the takeover, Newcastle have moved out of the relegation zone and into European contention, with the team currently one point out of the Champions League places with one game remaining over fourth-placed Tottenham.
Al-Rumayyan has been on Tyneside in recent days to gauge the club’s development as he is keen to make Newcastle a force in domestic and European football, according to The Telegraph.
The 53-year-old has largely faded into the background since PIF’s takeover 16 months ago, but he attended the team’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday and asked members of staff to make presentations so that he could understand what has been achieved. during his tenure to date.

Newcastle are set to play in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United on Sunday
In the first transfer window after the takeover, Newcastle spent £90m, bringing in the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes last January.
They then broke their club record transfer fee to sign Alexander Isak in the summer, while Sven Botman also arrived at St James’ Park.
But the Magpies only made one major signing last month, spending £40m on Everton’s Anthony Gordon.
It is understood that the club’s summer transfer budget was also on the agenda in discussions between Al-Rumayyan and Newcastle staff as they aim to compete with the ‘Big Six’.
Newcastle are trying to bring in new sponsorship deals, with an imminent announcement expected as to whether they have been successful with these.
If they get these deals down the line, this could increase the club’s buying power in the upcoming transfer windows.
Al-Rumayyan is believed to be very pleased with Newcastle’s progress on the pitch this term, with Eddie Howe’s side set to compete in their first final in 24 years when they take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
However, he wants the team to continue to improve and is willing to use the progress reports as a guide to keep moving the club forward.
