Paulina Porizkova opened up about how her ‘house burned down’ right after finding out she’d landed her first Sports Illustrated cover.

The 57-year-old Czech-born model was just 18 when she rose to fame after appearing on the cover of the magazine’s iconic swimsuit issue in February 1984, but her moment of triumph was marred by the loss of all your personal possessions.

They told me I got the cover of Sports Illustrated, because, you know, you didn’t find out until the night before. Was [a] big, big secret thing,” he explained during an interview with dead spin.

“They called and said, ‘Guess what? You’ve got the Sports Illustrated cover.'” And I think that night, or the night after, my house burned to the ground and I lost everything I owned.

Porizkova recalled that she only had a coat, a dog, a cat and her passport after the devastating fire at her house.

“I don’t remember having any underwear, actually,” she said.

Despite barely having any possessions to his name, he had to do press to promote the magazine and pretend he couldn’t be happier.

“I had to go on Johnny Carson and all these talk shows and be like, ‘Yay! Hi, I’m this bitch from Sports Illustrated. “So, there’s an interesting balance there,” he said.

Porizkova, who was the first Central European woman to cover Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue, shared how her fame reached new heights after the magazine’s fall.

“I had gone from that model with the unpronounceable name to Paulina Porizkova,” she explained. She put a name on my face.

The model landed her second Sports Illustrated cover a year later, in February 1985, and most recently posed for the magazine in 2019.

Looking back at the beginning of her career, Porizkova admitted that she didn't do much to prepare for a bikini shoot when she was younger.

Porizkova admitted that she has to exercise a lot and not eat much to maintain her appearance now that she is 50 years old.

Looking back at the beginning of her career, Porizkova admitted that she didn’t do much to prepare for a bikini shoot when she was younger.

“I started modeling when I was 15, and until I was 20, I was smoking, drinking, doing whatever I wanted,” she said.

‘It was quite easy. Life was pretty easy at the time. That’s the privilege of youth, that you can do those things and get away with it. I can’t get away with it anymore

Staying fit, lean and all that takes a lot of work. This is exercising a lot, not eating a lot, taking care of my skin, using a lot of SPF, vitamins,’ he said. “Basically, the older you get, the more it takes to maintain.”

Porizkova, who recently covered Vogue Scandinavia, added that the amount of time she spends on her appearance is par for the course as a model.

“I spend more time maintaining my outer self than really makes me happy, but at the same time, I have to because it’s still who I am, it’s still my job, it’s still how I identify,” she explained. .

“It’s a required amount of work for me to be able to do what I do, as an athlete. I have to keep training.
